Well, I've used the cleaning CD a few times, but it still skips sometimes. I put in a Journey CD, and it was skipping pretty badly. I took it out and put it back in, it stopped skipping. What's the deal?

Hmmm. Could this be the problem?

Just kidding. It is possible that the lens is damaged and the unit will have to be replaced. Had pretty much the same issue in my '94 (minus the Journey CD), and had to change the deck out. The unit in my '99 works pretty well though. If you go through your stash of CDs and have this problem with all of them consistently, replace the head unit. My $0.02.

Your head unit is going out. Eventually it will stop. My '97 had to have the head unit replaced, same symptoms.

Never had any trouble with the speakers in the 3 birds I've had.

My Formula has 152,955 miles on it and it still works suprisingly. The one in my 01 SS worked but would spit out some CD's at Random. I think the Monsoon head unit is OK but the speakers are notorious for rattling and blowing out

Journey rocks. Haha.

Should I buy another Monsoon head unit or go aftermarket? I can probably get a good working one on here for ~$75.

I'd just get another factory one, unless you're seriously into audio stuff.

The aftermerket one will probably sound a little better, but it'll cost you more.

Also, I can't stand the look of many aftermarket radios. There are only a few that I would even consider putting in a car I would own, the rest look way too wild for a stock interior F-body. Just looks out of place, IMO.

Yeah, I think I'll go the stock route again. It sounds fine and looks fine, too. Thanks.

I don't play many CD's in mine since i listen to my MP3 player most of the time. But, when i do, i have never had a problem with it. The only problem i have is the 3 and 6 buttons don't light up any more.

Well, I put in My Own Prison tonight, and the stupid CD worked great. I hadn't listened to Creed in years - what a good album.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I was referring to a factory Monsoon head unit.

Seriously - I've known a couple of new fbody owners with a 12 disc unit that had no idea to put the label side down and complained their stereo didn't work.

The head unit skips CDs intermittently. Like last night - I put in a CD, and it skipped horribly. I took the CD out and probably inserted it turned a little bit, and it worked great then. Why?

When its cold out, the cd's in mine skip alot, even if they are brand new cd's. After it warms up its fine. I can deal with it and just listen to the radio until it warms up, but wife complains about it. The thought has crossed my mine to get an aftermarket cd player, but will probably try to find a cleaner first.
