Problem Alright guys I have a huge decision to make I am only 16 years old getting my liscense in two weeks and have been looking at fbody's for a while. Well my dad will sell me his 99 Bird w/ a 5 speed manual or I could buy a 94Firehawk with the money I have saved up. My concern is the power the Hawk will have, insurance and gas money. The Bird would not be as easy to get in trouble with yet possibly not as fun. So my question is what would you guys do in my situation?

Go with the V6 car. You'll thank yourself later for it. Not only will the insurance & gas consumption not be as bad, you'll have a better chance of keeping yourself out of trouble. It'll still have some get up and go too. Trust me, the V6 car will be just as much fun.

Get the bird. Take it from someone who nearly wrecked his T/A the day he got her (still have her and she's a beut'). Gotta walk before you can run...

I turned 16 during august and got my 01 z. We have three vehicles so they put me on all three as the secondary and them as the primary so we split it up and I only pay 90 plus a 300 dollar car payment every month. If you keep your foot out of the pedal ( which aint to hard to you decide to get brave and punch after the 1st week) then you only have to feel'er up at the begining of the week and it last pretty long. So I say get the hawk, learn how to drive safely, don't be a douche bag on the road, get a job to pay for all the crap, and overall have fun with it.

The V6 arnt as bad as some people say - i had mine for well over 2 years and it was beyond reliable. I wouldnt think twice that it wouldnt start anyday. As for quickness, they got some get up and go (for the 3800). Expecially being a manual, chances are you got a Y87 (dual exhaust outlet, better gears, V8 suspension ect), they are pretty quick. I beat mine up daily till the day i traded it.

Low mileage hawk for that cheap... Sounds fishy. Also, I think hawks only came with T-tops past 1998 since it became a standard feature on Trans Ams. The car sounds like body kit to me.

In the "Standard Catalog of Firebird", none of the pre 99 firehawks shown have t-tops. You need to get more pics than the ones she has listed. You would need to see all the hawk documentation, badging, and an under the hood pic. It is my understanding that hawks were not available with t-tops until 99, but that could be wrong.
All* Firehawks have a option code:
B4U : 1991-1992
R6V : 1993-1997
WU6 : 1999-2002
This RPO code can be found with the other option codes listed on a sticker in the glove box or the passenger side door jam.
Get a list of the RPOs.

Also, the people at this site might be able to help differntiate the difference between genuine and a scam.

I would highly doubt the authenticity given the price andnumber produced for that model. However, it could be genuine and something mechanically is defunct.

Last thought on your overall question is: How reliable is the bird you will buy from your dad? I personally would go with the one I know I could rely on. Having to repair a car that has been 'ridden hard and put away wet' could cost you more than the car is worth...
