20k = Send it to a reputable sponsor on this board and have a car that can rape the package that LPE offeres and/or a new Z06. If he wants a new z06 though by all means get it.

Well, then I guess the question at hand in this thread has been answered. Looks like he's keeping the SS.

The end.

They aren't special because GM continues to top themselves every time they release a new ZO6, making the previous model look bleak in comparasion.

So long as each ZO6 gets better than the last, their prices will continue to drop and they won't be anything special to collect for purposes of value.

Here is a good example, look at the price of a brand new '02 LS1 F-body and a brand new '02 ZO6. Now look at what each sells for today. The percentage of price decline is nearly the same, so really the ZO6 hasn't proved itself to be any more collectible than an LS1 F-body so far.

Not much better than an F-body.

2002 Corvette Z06 Base MSRP: $50,430

You can pick up a low mileage '02 Z06 even from a dealer for low $30k range. That's a 35% drop from when they were new. Pretty damn close to the roughly 40% drop that a low mileage '02 F-body has seen.

I guess I just don't understand some people. LE cars are Limited Edition, which helps re-sale value. But mod it and have fun with it. I just turned 20 and I love to mod my 01 SS. I would think about mileage and the condition of the car when it comes to re-sale value, but i'm young and want to have fun with my car so it's irrelavent to me how much something thats fun now will hurt the re-sale value of my car.

You're suppose to buy cars for YOU, not for the next person who may own it.

But i'm biased - i'll never sell my car. IMO in the near future, with or without the mods these 4th gens will be worth alot more than they are now.

I would keep the SS. One that is not touched will be worth more in years to come.

If he still wants a vette keep the SS and buy a regular C6 there fast. One of the guys down here has a stock C6 six speed and he is running some 12 teens

add some headers a few bolt ons and your in the 11s

and drive the C6

personally I think the new Z06 will be a better choice on being a more rare car than the C6 Z06. it will have 650 hp stock and you could always add a pulley on the supercharger

Lets say you spend $70k on a new ZO6... its not going to be worth $70k in a couple years like said above. You may lose $20k off the top and there would have been your 427 upgraded Camaro.

Either way... 427 Camaro or 427 ZO6, why would you upgrade to either if you're not going to drive it?? 3 year 36,000 warranty means jack if you drive 1k miles per 5 years.

i wouldn't molest a 1k mile 02 SS at this point. Garage it or sell it to someone else who will garage.

I would definitely rather go with the Z06, but if your dad wants an fbody tell him to get one in good shape with a little higher mileage and send that one to LPE or wherever you decide to have it done at. or you could just do a supercharged/turbo regular C6

We are talking about regular Z06s and regular SSs.

Not a Ron Fellows car, or a Berger SS.

Fact still remains, looking at the prices of used C5 Z06s, they haven't held up much better than a same age/mileage F-body, in temrs of MSRP to current sale price percentage decline. I imagine the same will happen with the C6 Z06, assuming that there is a C7 Z06 that people like.

There are much better investments than cars.
Buy a car for fun not making money. Fun can be staring at a 1 mile '02 in the garage or burning the tires off a 112000 mile 02 in the street, but by all means buy/keep/build what you enjoy and damn the appreciation/depreciation. If you are wealthy enough to have a toy and are considering another or sending it to be pro-built you should already know this.

P.S. While I do love to see an all original 1200 mile 30 year old beast in a museum, I've always had a sick fantasy of buying a low mileage garage queen and pulling it out onto the road in front of the guy I just bought it from and burning the tires 'till they blow then driving off on the wheels.

P.S.S. If he's kept it pure this long, don't f*ck it up now. Someday your grandkids may be drooling over it in someone's museum. Someone has to be **** enough to save a couple of 'em. Us rednecks will beat the hell out of 'em then turn 'em into circle track cars. Then they'll be dead just like the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gens.
