They're talking about it being killer of the other cars out there, but by 2009 they'll be upgraded too.

I hate to sound like I'm badmouthing a vette, because I'm a huge vette fan, but I gotta call it like I see it.

the z06 looks much better to me, right down to the wheels.

ya but the article said they will have physical production data in March 2008 (track times, top speed results, ring times, etc)...and March is just around the corner. It will definitely be a late 2008 car as a 2009 model year.

and eat the competition alive. better hp/weight than a lambo lp640...awesome

Not to mention it is still WAY cheaper than all the other ones. You could buy three of these for the cost of one of the others (until dealers get their greedy little hands on them and mark them up).

i think just changing the oil will get you 10hp with that engine!

CAI is gonna be what 40hp throughout the powerband.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I'm not a fan of the engine. I'm sure it will be a great engine, but it isn't what I'd like to see bear such a historic name in Corvette history.

I would much rather a 6.0-7.0l, DOHC 32v all aluminum V8, tuned to the same power levels, revving to 8,000rpm. I'm well aware of the drawbacks of such a setup, but that's what I would like to see a ZR1 have.

Chances are it will be out by summer of 2008 and be modeled as an 09, at the latest september. I do agree the loss of the 50/50 weight distribution sucks, but 52/48 is not that bad. Cosmetically, everything is left up to opinion, but there is one thing that can not be doubted...there is a beast under that hood and if its anything like the LS7, it will surprise the world.

also that ford GT only has 550 hp, and costs 160 - 170 thousand for the Ford GT and another 40 - 50 grand to take it to Genaddi shop to make it a GTx1 and then get its 650 - 700 hp to the crank, and even that I doubt. The Zr1 will cost you 100k and it will own that GTx1 without sending it to no upgrade shop

hehe, I might not have said it that way, but I can't disagree much...Lightweight simple cost-effective perfected pushrod design is what LSx is all about.

yep, theres guys like him that brag to idiots about their dyno queen engine that spins 8500rpm and is DOHC.

Then theres guys like me that just make vehicles haul ***, haul loads, and handle well.

thankfully there seems to be alot of guys at GM who think the same way as I do.

That post was completely uncalled for. You know nothing about me, what I drive, how it drives, or how it performs. You assumed, and your assumptions are all wrong.

I own an LS1. I owned a 91 ZR1 for about a year before selling it to buy my Camaro. I think I know what a ZR1 is, and what makes it so special. And it's DOHC engine was magnificent. It was magnificent at idle, it was magnificent at 2,000rpm, it was magnificent at 7,000rpm, and it was magnificent as it walked away from every production car made for its 5 year life span.

Replying to your message before you edited it...

Do what you want, but why don't you mention your LS1 car in your sig?

But anyway, the way I see it, the theoretical advantage to the latest ohv vs. dohc is the production cost saving on the simpler design allows for spending that savings on bigger bang for the buck upgrades than dohc. I think GM has proven that because of this their ohv v8 engines are able to kick *** over the dohc engines in the same price range.

for example, a crate 350 ohv 300hp from gm is only like 1700 bucks, how much do you pay for a 300+hp dohc engine and also compare the weight, which not only improves weight, but weight distribution, so it's a win win win to me.
