Default What coolant??

Does it really matter if you use regular green coolant versus the orange stuff?

What are your opinions?

Prestone makes a version that is compatible with both green and orange.

+1 on Dexcool for me....but i heard that if you mix it with more water than coolant it keeps the engine cooler. Also has anyone ever tried the royal purple stuff you put in with your coolant? ...supposed to drop the temp pretty good

You can run either one just don't mix the two. Get it flushed and replaced with one or the other.

As far as I know, in all vehicles, from big disel duallies to little Honda civics, you need/want a 50/50 mix of coolant to water. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I buy the cheapest, already mixed stuff I can find.

i have been using the G-05 coolant for a few years, and i dont see any problems with it. I did a full flush (a couple times) and then filled up with it. Some of the auto x guys use it too

I believe this advice is correct. But this subject is like spark plugs or air filters, there are strong opinions. I use Dex.

Using more water than coolant will make the engine run slightly cooler, but it might cause some reliability issues down the road. Water does things to aluminum. My friend got a small leak in his radiator and used straight water for 4 months. After we replaced it, I cut open the old one and showed him why it sucks to run 100% water.

I used the green Prestone that was compatible with either one for a while in the Hawk. Then decided to just change out my coolant every year, but stick with the orange drex. Yea I know it's a waste but that's me when it comes to my cars.
