About how I am able to afford my car...
I worked a shitty job at good old McDonald's since I was 15. I saved $2000 from that job and the day I turned 16 I bought a 1997 Chevy Malibu with 76k on it. I drove it for about 8 months and somehow managed to put 10k on it. A friend of mine drives an 11 sec. Grand Prix GTP, and over the summer he blew a connecting rod. He's a year older and needed a DD to drive to school every day, so I sold him my Malibu for $2k. I was offered a job as an engineering intern over the summer, which paid very well. I worked 40 hours a week over the summer, and now that school started back up, I work 15 hours a week.
I paid in full the $5,800 for my Camaro, along with the title fees and license. I pay for my gas and insurance.
I figure my parents put a of over my head and feed me free of charge, anything else is just a bonus. Saving for so long sucked, but it's nice to see what hard work paid for... there's a daily reminder sitting in my garage.
Oh, and sadly enough, I'm not the fastest in the school parking lot. While I do smoke every Mustang GT on a regular basis, another friend of mine has a turbo'd Grand Prix that I can take from a dig, but from a roll he pulls a bit quicker.
He's running a 12.92 quarter best, my best is a 12.98.

NOT...I'm 38 and I'll probably still be at work when most of you are in bed.
Seing as most of you are in the "at risk" age group for most insurance companies, I wonder how much of your hard earned money your throwing away to insure your rides. Age has it's virtues, like I'm probably paying less to insure 4 cars and a Harley than you Young Guns are paying to insure your F bodies.

im 19 and bought my car when i was 19. it really pisses me off when people say that mommy and daddy bought my car for me which is a bunch of crap. i worked all through high school and saved up money plus i work 40 hours a week (along with being a full time college student) which is how i manage to own the car i do.
