Default How do I chose which heads?

I have an 02 SS. It has a .585 lift comp cam. If that's enough info, does anyone have suggestions as to what heads would be best? What other info do I need to know before I chose heads? I've been very confused on this for some time now so the more info I get the better. Advanced thanks!!

How much money do you want to spend? What are the rest of your cam specs? Just the lift figures don't tell much.

how much are u will/can afford. what are ur other mods/plans.. too many things to consider here then just lift. unless u r planning to stay with that cam and not go bigger then it makes things a little easier. heads around 2.02/2.05 in valves, 1.60/1.57 ex valves with .600/.650 rated valve springs. u got several sponsors here that sell heads and by talking to them u can get better advice and price in ur budget......

Money's not an issue, this is my dream car so i'm not too worried about what it'll cost me. The entire suspension is upgraded, Torque arm, LCA's, SFC's, STB, Shocks, springs.I have the k&n cold air intake, SLP longtubes, 3 in. borla exhaust, drilled/slotted rotors w/hawk pads, progressive lowering springs, 6 point cage. So basically I think I just need to figure out which heads I want to go with and a new clutch. I know the cam is comp cam .585 224/224, .114 lsa. I don't have the cam card in my possession right now (i'm currently in Iraq on contract) so that's about all the info i've got.

^^^ No doubt. I'd like a set of those myself. Maybe 215's for me though, cause my cam is a bit bigger, 230/232 .595 .598 112+2.

If money is no concern, then I agree with the AFR 205's......hard to beat 'em.

Thanks for the input guys, i've got another 3 weeks before i'm home. As far as a clutch goes, I had a spec stage 3 clutch on my last SS with no issues. I'm looking at going back to that or maybe tex, any suggestions with my setup?

I have a head Q also....

As far as AFR's go, with the 205, 215, and 225 head, the bigger the numbers the bigger the cubes? eg: 205 is more for a 346, 215 is for a 383 and 225 for 402+?? im just guessing.

Also how do you choose what size combustion chamber?.. 59cc 64cc blahh.

I'm by myself over here really, I work for a company called Pulau. I instruct and operate the Engagement Skills trainer 2000. It's basically a video game with real weapons but good training.

ETP 215's IMO are the best heads for a stock displacement LS1.

You're on the right track with intake runner size vs cubic inches. The goal is to get the highest flow with the smallest cross sectional area. If two heads both flow 300cfm at .600" and head A has a 210cc runner while head B has a 230cc runner, you'd want the smaller head. This keeps port velocity up which aids cylinder filling and torque production. This is why AFR 205's are such a nice head.....their 205cc runner flows more than (for example) a well ported 243 casting which can have upwards of 235cc runners. Larger cube motors benefit from bigger runners because the larger cylinder can ingest more air.

Combustion chamber size (along with piston volume) determine compression ratio. The larger the combustion chamber, the lower the compression ratio and vice versa.

ET definately makes kickass heads. if money were no option, they'd be on my car in a heartbeat.

Trick Flows will probably make the most power. You have to run aftermarket rockers though. PTV claerance is improved too because of the 13.5 degree valve angle so you can run a bigger cam without ptv issues. LS7's use a 12degree valve angle.
