Default Police Inerceptor Camaros

I'm going this weekend to look at a couple Camaros that claim to be ex-police interceptors. Now, what do I need to look for with these cars other than high mileage? The one guy said they used to take SS camaros and convert them. Another friend said they used to take Z28s and converted those. And what exactly goes into making a interceptor different from a production car. I'm looking at these cars Sunday with a friend, but would like to have a good bank of knowledge to tell if one of these guys is mistaken.

I would imagine interceptors may have a different suspension package. I know on the crown vics they use they beef the suspension up.

Other than that, I'm not sure.

look for B4C on the list of options inside your door. If it says it on there you have it.

It's nothing different, just a fleet vehicle.

That wiki is wrong in every way as far as 4th gen camaros go

There's not a difference, it's a debadged Z28. The B4C rpo just means it's a fleet vehicle. Could be a cop car, a commercial company car etc.

No not really. If you are going to look at a B4C that was a police car, you'll find alot of drilled holes just about anywhere they had a freakin radio or light/strobe. Seat will be worn out. Sometimes, I should say most of the time the old Police F Bodies are normally hard tops as well. Other then that not much. Best thing to do is just look it over. Unless they are dirt cheap I rather find a different car. They tend to be ragged out. I know the troopers I work with rag the **** out of all the vehicles they have. Whether its a Tahoe or Crown Vic etc. It gets put through its paces. OH and they 9 times out of 10 are Auto's.

OK, so the basic opinion is that there's really not different and that this chip the one guy is describing is not true according to what most people know. There's a 2002 for $7500 and a 2000 for $7000. Both claim to be police package, I seem to believe the guy with the 2000 more if it is true that he has owned 8 camaros and he did say there were holes where the radios and such had been in his car. But he didn't say anything about a special chip or anything. The 2002 owner mentioned the chip and when he said the stuff about the debaging SS and putting a Z28 hood on the car with a chip to make the total HP come out to like 375 while the stock SS has 325HP and the stock Z28 has 275, I started to wonder a little bit what he was tryin to say cause the whole debaging an SS and putting a Z28 hood on the car seems like a little too much trouble to go through to make this car for police use. Plus he said there didn't seem to be any holes from the radios and such. Which MAY or may NOT be such a bad thing.

None of our cars a all have "chips," and that includes LT1's so I'm surprised you're in the dark about that. LT1's and LS1's have computers that must be programmed. To program them, you're going to have to have a laptop and someone who knows what they are doing with an expensive program. So, anytime someone mentions LS1 (or LT1) and "chip" in the same sentence, they are full of ****.

Z28's and SS's and TransAms and WS6's and (non-ZO6) Vettes all have the same horsepower. They all have the LS1 engine, which is a 346 cid small block V8. There are slight differences in the years that amount to a hill of beans. "Ram Air" is literally a marketing gimmick.

Stock, they all put out about 300 rwhp give or take 10-15. They all should be capable of mid to low 13 second 1/4 mile ETs. The very fastest dip into the 12's bone stock.
