Well if they say its totaled tell them you want the cost of your mods added or the chance to take them off.

bring the auto traders with you to show what they sell for in the general. also when asking about parts ask in whch direction they went if you want to fix it, if you dont then bring examples of what you paid for mods, i.e. sponsors prices for these items, just to show the ins. company that these are desirable items and do make it more valuable. if this doesnt help then tell them that since the items are not making the value go up then you want to remove them. some will allow it and some will deny it due to the fact that it is apart of it.
