Default found out why my motor locked up, pics inside...

my motor seized up on me a while back during a "spirited banzai run" and i feared the worst...and i was right. i had JUST got back from getting it tuned. it made 452rwhp and ~400rwtq. below is a picture of a couple rod bearings. the FIRST PICTURE IS BOTH HALVES OF ONE BEARING, the others are pics of the adjacent rod bearing on the same journal.....enjoy

^--- you can't tell where one half starts and the other stops

when all the damage occured, the car just shut off, like someone turned the key. no knocks, no pings/pops, nothing....just died. time for something new

Wow so this was pretty much out of the blue. You say you just got it tuned. Was this the first tune after the H/C/I, if so that means they had not been on very long. Any thoughts on what would make a low mileage bearing go? Were there any recent rev limiter bounces or any in the past?Maybe a mechanical over rev? Did your motor spend a lot of time near red line? My H/C/I was on from 30k to 60k T/A but I also babied that car. Could this have been an oiling issue? I do not know Those are just some ideas I am throwing out there.

well, i had my tranny build by Tick Performance with their extreme viper package, and i had put the heads on at the same time, so i was breaking in a tranny and valve springs. the cam was already in with about 6K miles on it. after the tune, i continued to baby it a bit, just so everything could get broke in. i finally decided to let it rip one night and *poof*....it shut off close to the top of 4th, just like you turned the key off....no noises, no knocks, nothing. i stopped, tried to start it, and it went "clunk." motor hasn't turned over since. it doesn't seem to be an oiling issue, the other 6 rods were fine and there was no debris in the motor (other than some bearing material), at least nothing to inhibit oil flow. i think the rod bolts stretched and the bearing spun, a lot, until they seized up. the motor never saw the rev limiter, although it was now set at 7K.
