I go through ING, i dont like the idea of government funded ira's which is what the roth foundation is...its exactly the same but since i work for a county hospital its called a 403b instead of a 401k and i get salary percent match so it works better off then roth ira would for me...plus its beneficial cause my financial consultant works right down the hall...After thinking about the ops choice...he probably can afford to get a car and mod it but youll be in debt and a bad situation IMO if you want something bad enough youll find a way to get it even if it costs you all your money...its funny when you see a bunch of people have these cars but not afford the gas...thats bad planning

thats 2 tanks of gas...my gas bill is around 400 a month (not all in the z28)...when i first started college i was in a similiar situation and wanted a z28...if i did buy one i would got a high mileage one, after working through school and graduating then i bought the car and am in much better financial place then i would have been and knew i made the right decision and i bought a mint car just how i wanted it...figure 150 a month for insurance, 200 a month atleast for gas, and 100 a month for car fund or when something brakes fund, then you will have your car payment and other bills on top of that...this is just my opinion tho

Yea dshag if I got a match from my employeer I would be in a 401k. A match is a HORRIBLE thing to waste, its LITERALLY free money.

Just wait to get out of the nest, have a stable job making good money and living on your own to go down the FI route.

Well then I guess I'm going to work on getting an '04 GTO. Atleast I'll have a backseat (I'm sure a bunch of people will thank me for that).

But damn that insurance is gonna tear through some paychecks.

On a side note, anyone selling a GTO on the east coast?

Ya its basically a tax free 5% pay increase im seriously considering doing a cam only car right now...i love the car and want to upgrade it but taking the 10-15k for FI could also make a good investment...im really trying to save up until im totally stable but its hard because i really want to spend money on the car, wheels, tires, cam, boltons...also probly get married within the year so i guess it really matters where priorities are...i think we all know how the op feels about really wanting the car...so many things to buy but not enough money

an 80% match is crazy up to how much total? Mine is max of 5% of salary but i think it goes up to 8% after 5 yrs
im guessing your talking about an 80% match up to a certain amount?

You get an 80% match???? I kind of find that highly unlikely.

not that uncommon alot of companies match 80% or whatever up to a certain amount...for example my company matches 50% up to 5% of my total salary so i just say 5% to simplify

Exactly. 99% of the people I know just say that they will match 8% which is what he likely gets.

Good Choice. And KEEP IT "relatively" stock. By relatively, I mean bolt ons = OK~ Cam = NO!

On a side note, are you planning on getting an education? I would highly recommend it. That is really the only way to go in todays society.

Make sure you get one with the warranty, if you look on the gto boards the front tires rub the struts and inner fender wells. My friend has a 05 gto and the front tire moves about 4 inches back when he stops and hits the wheel well....his dealer did not want to warranty it, and it needs both new front tires, struts, all of the suspension. His car only has 15k on it and is all stock.

Dont settle for anything less than what you want. Having a badass car at your age is a huge +1 for your social status. Thats a sad fact, but very true. I give 7k for a 99 LS1 M6 with 60k miles on it with minor body work needed. The deals are out there!
