Default It's Official! I Did it!!! 99 Z28 fools.

Meet Flash.
It's a 1999 Z28 with around 49.7k on the clock, picked her up for $10k at a dealership in Theodore, Alabama. Did I get the best deal? Probably not, but I don't think it's bad either, it's much better than some other cars I've been looking at around here. It has quite a few mods done to it... and I'm not even sure what exactly they are, I've been told by the sales guy and the previous owner (who was generous enough to stop by) that it has headers, small cam, upgraded suspension, newer 10 bolt... and some other stuff that I forgot, hopefully he will see this and send me a mod-list lol. It supposedly put down 350hp to the wheels. The only things that I'm frustrated about right now is that the clutch pedal sticks to the floor occasionally on WOT runs (clutch fluid is dark brown... or maybe slave cylinder going out?) and the driver's side windows switch works on and off... I can get it to work sometimes by slamming the door repeatedly, hopefully it's just a bad connection and will be inexpensive to fix? I'm a complete newb when it comes to working on cars, so I look forward to absorbing as much as I can from this site and learning as much as I can.

a "small" cam car should put down more then 350rwhp.. and your sticky clutch is most likely a hydraulic problem.. Research the "drill mod", that should save you some issues.

edit: congrats on the purchase, now prepared to be BROKE!

You can get a new switch from a dealership for about $15 and they are easy to install. I would have the fluid changed to see if that helps. Also, when driving about 25 MPH put your car in 4th and floor it.....Does your clutch slip? If the revs go up and you don't move much you need a new clutch. Good Luck.......

Yeah I heard about the drill mod, that's going to happen sometime in the near future if it hasn' been done already... I just figured that the dirty clutch fluid could be a cause too. Alright, just to make sure that I don't feel too stupid and know for a fact this car is indeed cammed, can you tell by listneing? I have a small video on youtube. http://youtube.com/watch?v=B2oHeRdqb18
PREPARED to be BROKE? brother, I am ALREADY broke!

edit: oh, and the little green car next to the camaro is my old car.

im at work, but im sure someone will pop in and let you know w/ your video clip.
also, try what qwk93ta said... if your clutch is slipping, its time for a new clutch. Mine just went out and im in the process of removing my tranny etc.. I was hoping it was just the fluid, but i guess its the clutch.

same EXACT thing happened to me with the clutch stuck to the floor at WOT. First i changed the master cylinder, didnt do anything. Then i changed the steel braided line with a drill mod, still didnt work. Finally i got a new slave and clutch and it worked. Try a slave cylinder. They aren't expensive at all. Somewhere around $120

The clutch doesn't slip at all, only gets stuck to the floor. So if it is the slave cylinder... I'm looking at $120 plus labor (that'll probably be more expensive) -_-

I'd start with the drill mod, and if that doesn't work try the slave. And if you have the time i really suggest doing the work yourself. Its much more rewarding, you know its done how you want it and you learn a lot about the car. But, if you have to take it somewhere, no biggy, its just nice to save money.

And congrats on the car, looks nice.

Maybe it's not putting down as much power as it should, because the previous owner said he had it tuned for reliability instead of performance, since he was also weary about buying a modded car (like I was). The clutch isn't that bad of a problem though, I'm not going to beat the **** out of it very often anyway with gas prices the way they are, and the fact that I'm broke from buying the car. But if it happens more often I'm going to look more into it. For now, I'm just trying to get the damn window fixed!

Oh, and another thing, the dealer gave me one key, but I want to make a copy.. maybe 1 or 2 more just in case. Do I have to go to the Chevy dealership or is there anywhere else I can go? How much would it cost since it has the fancy little chip?

Its about 30 dollars at any place that makes keys, a ACE hardware store near my house does it. And its not really a chip, just a resistor.

you would have to go to a dealer as far as i know, everywhere ive tried cant replicate that chip... and the clutch thing is normal almost all the ones ive encountered have had that problem w/o drill mod, mine included.

edit: maybe you dont have to go to a dealer ? ^^^

If you've got the stock clutch in the car and it's putting down any respectable cam-only numbers (even a small cam), chances are you're gonna need a new clutch to hold the power. The stocker doesn't do too well past bolt-ons most of the time.

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the family!

Congrats on the car. Finally.

You can buy a new key from Ebay for a few bucks and then have it cut at a local locksmith's. No need to buy $30+ key from the dealer.

Just go to the dealer and have them tell you the value of the resistor and then buy from Ebay. Done that several times with my various F-bodies. Or I guess you could measure the resistance yourself, too.

It doesn't sound like a cam is in it? I hear headers and with headers and a ls6intake it should be around 350 from what people say. If he had it tuned with a cam it would be more then 350 but still a good deal.
