Any "Z" in Chevy stands for Zora Arkus Duntov. He was the chief engineer in the GM performance dept. and he is the designer of the Corvette. He had a fetish for stuffing big motors into small cars. And GM continue that tradition till this date.. He retired from GM in the late 70's and died in 1996. But even after retirement he still was there to help for every new model change. GM pays homage to him with the "Z"
