Default heads/ cam tune question

hey guys. i am doing a heads cam swap on my car. i am also putting on a new TB and intake and LTs the heads are the 5.3 stage 2.5s and the cam is a texas speed 233/239. my question is that the clsoest tuner is about 300 miles away!!! is it possible to drive the car on a factory tune that far? will it even run on a factory tune?

ya i guesss i could do that but it just seems like a waste of money tto get a mail order tune just to drive it 300 miles. i could tow it but we all know how diesel is and all i have to pull it with is a duramax.

For a shorter distance I think would be fine, but for farther away... ehhhh. I'm driving mine to VA Speed from my house which is 50 miles give or take. I talked to them about it and said to leave the stock injectors in it. If you put in something bigger, you'll be dumping a ton more fuel even at idle. They tend to run a bit on the rich side at idle and lower rpm anyway but for long distance... your choice but I don't think about getting on it and leave the stock injectors on until you get there if you do.

Your going to love that cam, post up your results, I dont think I have seen a 233/239 cam with the 5.3l heads yet. Also I would at the least get a base mail order tune before going 300 miles. If you were >50 miles then I would say its ok.

distance is not going to matter at cruise speeds, just dont go WOT. your idle will be the worst part. will have to do some fancy foot work to keep it from stalling coming to a stop. if your o2's are working they will keep the fueling near stoich while cruizing.
