Default How to identify if its a corvette or camaro ls1

Im going to look at a truck tomorow that has an LS1 conversion in it. Its got the corvette covers but I know those are available through summit or something. So my question is how do I identify the engine without running the casting numbers

Its almost 100% impossible due to the fact that it could be a camaro engine with vette covers, or a vette engine with a camaro belt drive. Pull numbers and find out.

MY question is why does it matter which it is?

if you're concerned about power they're exactly the same. the camaro is way underrated. the only reason the vette puts out a little more is due to a better intake and less restrictive/shorter exhaust. since it's in a truck that doesn't matter.

or are you trying to figure out whether it has an ls6 intake or heads or whatever?

No I was under the impression that the corvette motor was better. Im new to Ls1's but I know on the LT1's the corvettes were four bolt mains and the camaro 2. If the power level is the same then I guess it doesnt matter. BTW where are the casting numbers located on these engines

Yeah, don't worry about it.

Differences will be non existent in a truck.

the ONLY differences that would make power would be ls1 or ls6 intake manifold and that only depends on the year of the car it came out of, not the type. other than that, there are no power differences with the motor. as said above they had better exhaust and better intake. which both would be custom anyhow on a truck.
