Big difference between 350 crank hp and 350 wheel hp.
I think it was actually 345 crank hp though.... but think about it... a car that is rated at 305 crank hp will NOT make 290-300 wheel hp while STOCK, as most of these cars do.
It's a know fact that these cars were underrated by the factory.
Whether or not the WS6 actually has more power, it's only a ten rated hp difference, which you can't feel on the street, and is easily made on a non-WS6 car with a 90 dollar lid.
edit: should have read the rest of the replies before posting, 2 people already beat me to it.

Lets see if I can shed some light on the subject.
The ws6 badge goes back to the 3rd gen cars and yes it was a suspension upgrade over the regular firebird.
In the lt1 cars the ws6 badge was also a suspension upgrade and it also was a performance upgrade from the 285 hp rating to 305 hp
In the ls1 cars I don't think it was a suspension upgrade it was an appearance and performance upgrade. The power was upped from 305 hp in the firebird to 320 hp for the ws6 cars.
I don't know about the 3rd gen cars but in the lt1 cars SLP did the You are correctperformance upgrades such as a different catback, ram air hood, and why they did this I can't understand for the life of me was to port the exhaust manifolds. Just put headers on the damn cars!![Bang Head](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_banghead.gif)
For the ls1 cars Gm didn't have SLP do them. GM did the ws6 and ss camaros themselves. Just look at the stock catback on a z28 camaro and an ss camaro. The z28 has the black flat-looking rectangular tips and the ss has the same catback with chrome rolled lip tips. It did have a performance upgrade with the ram air hood. In the 99 and 2000 years it was rated at 315 horse because of the ls1 intake and in 01 and 02 it was rated 320 for the ls6 intake. The cam difference between the 2 was negible due to the intake changes.
I could be wrong about this on but I think in 1998 there were no ws6 or ss camaros. Just like ford had a n/a cobra in 99 but no cobra in 2000-02 and then came with the s/c 03 cobras.

WS6 code began as a handling package on the 2nd generation Firebird Trans Ams/Formulas.
This package included:
urethane bushings
thicker sway bars
high performance steering box
later on 4 wheel disc brakes
Same carried over for the 3rd generation cars, purely a handling package on the GTA cars.
On the 4th gen cars it was a handling and "performance" package:
Ram Air hood
WS6 lower air box
32mm front sway bar
1LE springs (for '98, '99, and some '00s)
WS6 badging & Ram Air decals
Lower restriction catback
17" x 9" high polished wheels w/ 275/40/ZR17 tires
Jounce spacers for 17X9" wheels
Power steering cooler
The conversion from a standard Trans Am to a WS6 was done by ASC not SLP. This also included the hood which was painted at there facility to match the cars. This is why alot of WS6's have issues with the rain etching on the WS6 hoods paint and not the rest of the car.

The Firehawk never came with a loudmouth from the factory. It was the optional SLP dual dual. The Firehawk was the one that came with the optional Bilstein shocks/SLP eibach springs. The WS6 had none of those options. The Camaro SS and the Firehawk were it. Also the stock muffler that was on the WS6's was made by GM it was a little more agressive and free flowing

well... suspension can most definitaly make your car faster....think about it you have 1000rwhp... stock suspension=slow car
IMHO, the ws6's are way faster, i had a base 2000 ta and is was a turd befor my 01 ws6. stock on the 2000 was 14.0s all day. first time down the track with the WS6 13.30

Ws6 is mostly looks, Ive had 1le's, ws6's, SS's, even z06's. Ive had everything from bone stock to cammed out blah blah blah....
WS6 is all looks. compared to base model TA, you get a hood, slightly stiffer suspension, and maybe 5 extra horse at 50 mph. Every car is different, every motor was broke in different, every car runs differently, and every driver is different. My stock WS6 with 150,000 miles on the stock clutch at 800 ft elevation would run 13.20's all day on stock tires. I also had a 1le z28 that would chirp 4th gear at about 95 mph and was a high 12 second car bone stock. And weve all had 13.50-13.90 turds that just werent as fast.
Ws6 adds a decent amount to the price of a TA, hoping that it is a true WS6. Look on the door to see that it has the Ws6 rpo CODE and that it matches the vin. If not...its not real, plain and simple.
