Salvage title inspections in CA
Well I thought I had the car registered and since I don't live in an area in CA where I have to re-smog the car unless I sell it. Anyway the car is not smog legal at all. LT headers, no cats, it's a 408 with a somewhat lumpy cam. Now I find out that I have to have a CHP salvage title inspection, the CHP has to do this not the DMV which is what happened the first year I registered the car.
What are they going to look at? Am I going to have to start the car with an officer there? It's Loud even with the cut out closed. and the exhaust stinks, you can tell no cats. Oh yeah under the hood it's obvious that I have a N20 system, LT's are clearly visible.

If you still have the stock parts put them back on real quick and then swap them out again. Unless you don't have the time for that. If you really like the car that much it would be worth it to switch everything back to pass inspection.

How do you know it needs a real inspection?
I live in AZ and I know **** is a bit different. But, I live in a emission free zone. So my car never goes into anywhere, I just pay for new plates every year.

This is what the lady at DMV told me. That the inspection they did they are not allowed to do that the CHP has to do it. I have no idea what they are going to look for. If they are just going to do mileage and brake and lights then I think I'd bo ok. Just as long as they don't go snooping under the hood.

Vehicle Inspection - Revived salvage vehicles must be inspected by the California DMV or the California Highway Patrol (CHP) before DMV can issue title and registration. When the CHP does an inspection, you must bring the bills of sale and proof of ownership (previously discussed) to the inspection appointment for review by the inspection officer. A nonrefundable inspection fee will be collected by DMV at the time the registration application is presented.
NOTE: Vehicles being presented for inspection that were originally manufactured with a supplemental restraint system (air bags) need to be equipped with air bags in good working order, which meet applicable federal motor vehicle safety standards and conform to the manufacturer’s specifications for that vehicle.
CHP conducts inspections by appointment only. You must contact the CHP for an appointment. The CHP addresses and appointment telephone numbers are listed below.
