Default whistleing alternator???

Yup it's whistleing, pretty loud. Matches rpm. and is louder than my exhaust. BTW the volt meter fluxuates pretty badly through routine driving. Is it time to shell out $430 for a high amp one that wont crap itself at high rpm?

Is your belt and tensioner in good shape? If your sure it just the ALT and not your belt, then your probably looking at a new alternator.

The sound made me grouchy, so I changed both belts. The problem went away for a few days, and is back again. I just bought the car 3 months ago, and I'm pretty sure it was not treated well by the previous owner.

Oh it does! but I work 10-12 hrs a day 7 days a week and have no time to work on the car or even drink beer. So if it's the alternator, I've got to call in sick so I'll have the day to do it.

So here's the plan, ...
I talked with the wonderfull people at JEGS and this alternator should work http://www.jegs.com/i/Powermaster/713/48203/10002/-1
I figure this with a manual tensionator should do the trick. any input on this dilema?

Alternator don't take that long to change. No need to call in sick. Unless you want too. LoLz

Get a new alternator before you kill your battery. No need getting a higher amperage alternator unless you actually need the extra current.

I hear nothing but horror stories about autozone alternators, I'd rather go big in anticipation of the new radio getting ordered when the car quits making funny noise. My plan is to make small improvements in the driveline and chassis to prepair for an aluminium 427 seeing as how there is no 455 lsx option

Hmmm.... Bearings... Perhaps I'll steam clean the crap outta the bastard and see if it'll work as a temp fix for the 3 weeks I'll be waiting on the new alt

nope, bad alt. Bought an autozone bastard, and it died on monday. Lifespan 3 weeks. I called my father and asked him about it. He said his 04 3/4 ton silverado had the same electrical issues, and changeing the brushes fixed it. Any good ideas? Still have the orig. Should I swap the brushes and volt reg for a new set? Where on Earth will I find that in san diego? I can't even buy a tansmission mount here at any auto store.
