Are you the first owner of the car. Have you had it long? Light comes on every 6-7,000 miles. Next time you get in the car turn ignition on but don't crack it and at the same time press brake pedal for about 15 seconds-20 seconds. Then turn ignition off. Start the car and it should reset.

Actually, I think it depends on the car. For 1998-2002 LS1 F-bodies, you press the "TRIP/OIL RESET" button (right next to your odometer) and hold it until the light goes off. Your key must be in the "Accessory" setting (Right before the "RUN" setting). Light shouldn't appear for another couple thousand miles.

My '02 and '01 both reset by turning the key to on (not back into accessory) then immediately pressing and holding the trip reset button, and wait for approx 15 secs, turn igntion off, and just start the car up, it will turn off like normal.

There are two ways to reset it.
Turn the key to run, engine off and hold the trip reset until the change oil light flashes.
Or turn the key on engine off and pump gas pedal about five times.

The light comes on depending on many things, not just mileage.

I was wondering this the other day. What all does it use to calculate when to turn the light on?

From what I read in the manual it calculates it by rpms and miles.

Accessory it turned back-counter clockwise. The key needs to be turned clockwise like you're going to start it, you just don't start it.

Owner's manual...

But yeah. Turn the key on, engine off, and press the gas pedal 5 times quickly. If the Change Engine Oil light flashes 5 times, it is reset.
