Default Window Problem

I started my car this morning and when i went to push the button for my driver window to go down it only goes down about half an inch then stops. Then when i go to put it up, it doesn't move. Then about 1 minute later i push the button again to put it up and it goes up. I did this a few times but it does the same thing. Is it the Fuse? Window Motor? Button? Can anyone help me. Thanks i appreciate it.

Usually when they start failing it does the few inches/stop/inches again/stop when putting it up. I'd replace the motor before it completely fails in the down position.

Get a replacement motor, it's a pretty easy fix.

The link for the Camaro window replacement has pics and I used that one.

To me it was a COMPLETE PIA and it took another person just to hold it up.

Now the damn DS is going

Edit: And use rivets, much easier than F'ng with bolts IMO

Funny you mentioned the bolt cuz I snapped one of the small ones that came with the motor and ended up drilling out the holes and putting a big *** bolt in there cuz that was all I could find at the time lol.

You can do it by yourself, just use a 2x4 or something to hold the window up.

I hate changing spark plugs but I thought this was easy, dunno.

It's the motor. Exact same thing happened to mine.

You won't find a better guide than that, IMO.

Cool 99 Camaro Z-28 window motors BAD..

I had dealer replace driver window motor 4 times in 2 years. they are junk. Mine always end up 1-2 inches from top and stop! The brushes in these are trash. I disected 2 motors!! they start off intermittant, and fail forever in 1-5 more uses as the carbon/graphite brushes wear/burn away or jam in their slides. Motors are about $55. And wear gloves...that fiberglass door itches!! might be a good time to replace the door speaker...they go every 3 years or so, and are 2 Ohm ones!! be careful of what you put back in the speaker/ window motor removal hole. wrong speaker will sound bad! this link is invaluable to see how to do the work...

PS. might check on the 2 felt covered restrainer "arms" that hold tension from the inside of the glass to push it against the outer window wipe. These break easily, allowing a sloppy window, and the probability that the glass may get scratched from the inside. these 2 are mounted inside at the top of the door w/ a slot adjustable bolt. make sure your's aren't broken from slamming the door too often. they are $12.00 ea. from GM. and worth it for a tight seal. see above link to see these. on the upper inside of door at the top.
