Default Battery works but car wont turn on

Zup fellas! I recently fixed the hole on my Pacesetter header and put new spark plug wires. My car ran fine Until the day after I drove it and now it doesn't want to turn on. My lights turn on but I try to turn the ignition but nothing happens. What could it be? starter, alternator, etc..? Thanks

How many volts do you have at the battery? Lights will still turn on even if the battery is low. Does it make a clicking nosie when you try to start it? Do you hear your fuel pump priming when you turn the igintion on?

That was happening to me, my battery should 12 Volts on a digital volt meter. Took the battery into autozone and they did a free load test, turns out the battery was bad. replaced the battery had the same thing happen about two weeks later, noticed my alternator voltage would drop every now and then. Replaced my Alternator with one out of my other car, while replacing it, I noticed the power steering pump or resevoir is leaking. I think when everything is warmed up it leaks and drops into the alternator.

Get your battery tested for free. if you can, take your alternator in too and have it tested.

That is funny that you mention that. I was working on a car that had the same problem the PS pump was leaking in the alt. causing it to shrot. Which led to the over loading of the battery. On top of that the water pump was leaking.
Take your battery out and take it have it tested. The car above that I was talking about would start tho and then die. THe alternator is not hard to get out. Auto parts stores can test those to for you.

O BTW a good battery should read between 12.6 and 12.8 to be a good battery. 12.0 is like 25% of charge.

hmm, doing a quick search, GM PN for a power steering pump seal kit is 26053277GM list $9.59 (GMPD $5.68), or Autozone PN 8796 $7.99

I think I'm going to buy one this weekend or next and rebuild the pump in my 396 project, swap it with my 2002 SS pump then rebuild that for the 396 project.

My battery is good but the gauges(no security light) dont go on or my radio. When I put my key in the ignition it makes the regular noise when the door is open but as soon as I turn it, it goes away and nothing happens. I also checked all my fuses. Any ideas?

Finally found the problem. It was a cable on the starter touching the block, it shorted and busted the starter. Bought a new starter, a few fuses and now my car feels good especially w/ a new oil change & air filter. Thanx for the suggestions everyone.

Could have been you key as well. This happened to me a few times, the little chip in the key if it moves to far to the left or right car will not turn over at all.

To good to be true but my car still runs. I have a security light on and it wont go away. Should I worry or just ignore it. I read many threads about this but many situations are different. Hmmm... Any recommendations?
