Over the years I've had a problem with the pump shutting off right from the start trying to fuel the car a couple times, but only in hot weather. Just kept trying. Did you try another pump? Don't know if this will help: www.gearchatter.com/viewtopic8926.php

Could definately be a venting issue. Just for peace of mind, go to your auto parts store and buy a locking gas cap for 10 bucks, its well worth it.

is your car a 99 by any chance?
ive had 2 99 z28s and they have both had problems with filling gas. i have to turn the nozzle to the side or upside down to pump it.my friend with his 99 shares this problem as well...my 98 never had this problem lol

I have had this issue with my 01 ta ever since I installed the blower. I dont think the blower had or has anything to do with it, just a coincidence, I never considered the charcoal canister like you guys mentioned though.
I know for sure there is no foreign material in the filler tube and I have noticed my car is much harder to fill if I leave it running. I seem to be able to fill it at a very slow but steady rate if I leave the car sitting for a minute or so before I stick the nozzel in. If I try to pull the lever up to one of the auto fill setting it will shut off everytime.
OP good luck on your troubleshooting. Dont forget to tell us what the fix is if you track it down.

I've had this problem for a couple of years. Chevy can't figure this out, but something gets stuck down in the neck. What I've done is take a copper wire (like pull some 12 gauge out of some romex), and feed it down the neck to the tank and just fiddle around with it, rotating the wire etc, you will bottom out on something, give it a little push and this valve will open and watch out cuz it may spit on you. I showed this to my mechanic and he can't figure out why it does this. I will tell you this, DO NOT top off your tank, when you fill up and it clicks off, put it back in the pump. I haven't had problems since not topping it off.

This indicates that the fuel tank is not able to vent... it vents thru the EVAP vent solenoid/valve and thru the charcol canister and out to atmosphere... something is plugging the vent path.
