Default Car Surges when I get on gas.Help.

I am hoping some can help me out with a problem I have been having more and more often with my LS1. Basically, every so often (and this has been getting more and more often), the car will start running real sluggish as though its running on 6 cylinders, the engine and car itself will start to shake and accelerating is very difficult when at low RPMs. In order to get it running normal you really have to get on the gas at which point the shake disappears and the car lurches forward as if it just found the two other cylinders. As I shift and the RPMs drop this may occur again or it may not, just depends. This happens on the highway too if I'm in 6th and not going 80, or if I am going 80 but decide to slow down to 70. Please help me out, what do you all think is wrong? Anyone have a similar issue?

Thanks in advance for any help/pointers.

Could be a dirty MAF. Try cleaning it well with MAF cleaner. (When the MAF doesn't sense the proper airflow, the BCM cuts fuel to the engine.)

I had similar problems due to a dirty MAF and clogged fuel filter.

Might be bad O2s. I have the EXACT same issue as you.. I just ordered some fresh O2s. If you wait long enough, I'll report back my results. For me it wasn't the fuel filter or the MAF. This kind of things seems to be caused by a number of issues.

I will try to clean the MAF, but if you could report back with your results ballhawk I would greatly appreciate it.

As for the fuel filter, I don't think its that because I just changed that this summer.

Thanks again.

Similar issue here- do you notice it at certain RPM ranges? With my car it seems its specifically at 2100 and 2700 RPM. I will try cleaning my MAF as well.

Yep, that's right around where mine is doing it. After I push through about 2500 though it really takes off and runs just fine, but as soon as I go back below this threshold or shift up it just starts doing the same old $hit.

hesitation at low rpm and high load is probably an ignition problem. Check your plugs and wires.

Not the plugs or the wires. Also the MAF seems clean (I have an after market one that doesn't have a screen in it anyway). I also seafoamed my motor but this situation persists. I have also noticed that the I have a lot of back fire when I let off the gas in pretty much any gear if the revs are over 2K. Any other ideas?

I have the same problem as well. Took it to the dealership and they said it was the MAF/#4 injector. Well I had them put a new MAF in and the problem still presists. So next week I'm putting in a new injector and new plugs/wires i'll let you know if it goes away.

check your cables and spark plugs, my brother had the same problem and it was the coil, start from checking the cables and spark plugs first. they cheaper!
