I remember seeing a write-up not too long ago. And yes, there is a specialty tool that GM probably uses, but not absolutely necessary.
The seal should pry out with a small flathead screwdriver. Don't worry about mangling the seal, but be careful not to damage the seating surface on the block.
Putting the new seal in: this is where there's probably a tool that makes it 50X easier, but just use an appropriate-diameter piece of PVC tubing that fits into the lips of the new seal to gently tap the new seal into place.

heres a pic right after i pulled the old seal out.. i just used a flathead and pryed around until i could just pull it out.. as you can see some oil will leak out

guide the new seal in with the plastic guide supplied.. then beat the new seal in using the old seal ontop of it with a hammer.. thats it! i also put a small bead of rtv around the seal just to make sure
hope this helps

Ok so I know I'm beating this to death but I don’t wana half to go back in and do this again. I replaced the rear cover gasket and all I did on that was hold it up there and line it up start the bolts and tightened them all down in a criss cross patter is that ok? and the rear main I just barley started on side then got the other in then criss crossed all the way around till it was flush is that ok? should I tap it in further?

do you mean the 4 bolts circled in red?? if so then ya you should be good.
the rear main should just sit flush.. run your hand over it and feel.put a bead of rtv around the rear main if your still worried it might leak.
