Default Motor Mount Swap

So... I have been trying to get a shop to do my motor mounts and they are booked up. I am considering doing it myself. Before I do this, I wanted to check with my friends at LS1tech and see what I need to watch out for and maybe get a heads up on surprises before they find me. Anything will be appreciated. Thanks.

Unless I had my own shop with a lift and with a huge standing jack, I'll NEVER do this again...

I almost gave up halfway through, called in sick the next day to work to finish, almost destroyed my motor, etc. with handtools, two floor jacks, and small jackstands in my standard, home garage.

This post sums up exactly how I feel. **** motor mounts, unless you're a mechanic which I am not. lol

is either side harder? Is it the lining up that's hard? My car has has no ac, and the passenger mount is extremely easy to get to. I can get my hand all the way around it. I plan on doing mine soon, has anyone just taken off alternator and ac to get to them from the front?

My friend and I got it done in 3 hours. Of course I did the solid mounts so I didn't have to worry about drilling or anything like that. I was doing the headers and y-pipe at the same time so that made it easier to reach. I would imagine it would take a little longer with exhaust in the way and doing poly mounts.

its all in how you approach it. Take your ac, alternator off and anything else that will make it harder than it should be. I went from never doing much on a car to now i have done a heads cam package, complete motor swap, a th350 swap, th400 swap, and many other misc stuff to a 99z and 01z. Take your time and it can be done. my 02.

The solids were actually really easy. They take up so much less space that they kind of just slide in. You have to move and pry stuff around a little bit to get it to line up, but there is no drilling or anything to break open the clamshell, so it doesn't take as long.

mt mounts were fairly easy with headers out, get some metric ratchet wrenches, possibly angled ones, and make sure your putting it on the right side. youll need to jack up the front of the motor just a little, take mounts out one side at a time, dont tighten one bolt untill you have them all started.

I took mine to a shop to get them done, and it took them 5-6 hours and a bunch of busted knuckles - and they had a lift. Good thing they charge based on the quote.

Removing the a/c and alternator will make it so much easier. I did it in my friends driveway with a 2 ton jack and jackstands.

Same here. No lift necessary. When you move the right stuff out of the way, they are pretty easy to get to. I only needed to remove the starter when I did the solid mounts because I had the exhaust out also. It was pretty easy actually.

Its a lot easier to line them up if you do them one at a time. Leave the other side of the motor bolted in so it will pivot with the jack. It wasnt that bad for me, just took a long time.
