Default missfire.

Alright this is the second time my car has had a missfire. last time it was only at high rpms and the check engin light wold blink. i changed the spark plugs and wires and it went away. this time it only happens when the car is under a load or at wot. It feels like it could be a real problem because it feels really slow now. I ordered all the parts for a head cam swap and im about to do the swap. Should i locate the problem first or hope that the swap and tune fix it.

I would do the swap, put new 02's in and get it tuned, and hopefully it goes away.

Sounds like you have a plug wire touching a header pipe and its arcing under high power output.

See if thats it first.

problem found. the msd wires were on the headers and were burnt thru. i moved them off and turned them and the car is fine. Is there anything i can put on them to keep them from arching.

Glad you got it fixed... I dont see how they can touch the headers, they are just long enough to go from the coil to the plug.

At least you found the issue.

I'd get a new set from Advanced Auto for $36.00. Or take the burnt ones off and wrap them good with electrical tape.

The trick to get them off the headers is to put them on, then twist them at the coils until they are off the headers.

I had the same issue with the MSD 8.5 wires...If they are the same ones I got - You can bend those wires at the boot where they go in the plug. Put them on and the bend them away from the headers...It worked for me.
