Default Help!!!!!!!

so i'm driving home from school tonight and was cruising it in 5th gear on the freeway, and all of a sudden, my car starts sounding funny like it wants to turn off so i get on the side of the freeway and it does, it turns off, i have no idea why! i turned the key and it turned on like normal but it kept doing the same thing about 3 times as i was going home, i had to keep turning it back on, the idle sounds horrible, and i have no idea wat to do its not driveable because it will continue to turn off, i need help! any suggestions???? all it has done is an LM1, stock completely besides that, it has 110k miles or so on it, help!!!!!! please!!!

sounds like your crank shaft position sensor is failing.

You won't get an SES light till it completely fails.

You can even buy one at the auto parts store just to check and rule it out. Takes 15 minutes to change. If thats not it, take it back for a refund.

so u think its a good bet that it is that? so this is wat happened, i cruised in 5th but i was going probly 55 or so, then it sounded really really droned out, then the lights on the dash were fading on and off so i pulled over and it turned off, turned it back on, got back on the freeway, same thing happened, but when i kept it in idle it sounds normal until i hit the gas slightly then it goes back to being weird, maybe i need a tune?

Well, thats sounds a little different than your original post.

I would take your car tomorrow to an auto parts place that tests batteries and alternators for free.

You may have a failing battery or alternator.

No problem.

did they check the battery terminals I had a similar problem once but it wasn't quite as bad. under full throttle all the lights would dim it turned out that the terminals were corroded and just loose enough that they would shift and loose contact when I got on it hard

Why did you think it was fixed....what did you do after you went to check the batt and alt?

How is it over heating, whats it doing?

it wasnt making the noises anymore, it ran great for a day, the next day it started up again, the belt was changed and the maf was cleaned out, the guy doing all the work works at saturn but he's doin it for free cuz he's a good friend, the dash wasnt working to begin with also so that was fixed, he thinks it might be a computer error since the dash wasnt working? and when we took it on a test run, and the dash was working the temp. gauge would go to the red, so he's gonna change the thermostat and put a new chain on there too and reprogram the computer

Tell him to test your t-stat before buying a new one. Pot of boiling water test.

You could just have a failing temp sensor.

Could be a dirty radiator, could be that the system hasn't been vented properly. The water pump will usually leak if it's bad.

Leaking water pumps don't make an engine overheat, unless its been leaking for like a week.

If you top off the coolant and go for a drive and you overheat, its something else thats making you overheat.

UNLESS of course its leaking like a garden hose, but most of the time they drip very slowly.
