Default Front turning lamp sockets...

So recently my turn signals have been acting up. When I flip the turn signal on, it stays lit on my dash, does not light up in the front at all, and stays lit in the rear until I flip it off. At first it was just my passenger side blinker but now it's both.

I took it to the dealership thinking it was just a bulb that needed to be replaced but they ended up telling me that it wasn't the bulb but the socket that it was connected to. I almost said go ahead and take care of it but something told me to ask how much it was first... 80 bucks for each one!!! Are you kidding me? For a ******* socket? That's a complete rip off.

So what should I do? I'm sure there is a cheaper way to do this... Does autozone or something carry the part I need for cheaper? What part number is it?

I think AZ does carry it in the general electrical section. See posts 7 & 8:

Solder the replacement in, don't use crimp connectors. Reason sockets go bad is the high current causes high heat when run through a connector that gets corroded (corrosion = resistance = heat). Same thing will happen with the resistance crimps are notorious for.

Yes, they are expensive. We just wired a spare one laying around at work from a Kia.

There are two bulbs in the turn indicator lamp: a 194 single filiment bulb and a 3157 dual filiment bulb. The dual filiment bulb is the one you want I just did this on my 98 Z28 today but mine just needed a bulb. The socket you need is 12159662 and lists price is $65.21.

ROCKAUTO sells the socket for $37.79 check out their site; its under electrical: turn signal lamp socket. Its a 3 way socket with two leads and the GM patr number is 12159662

the same parts are available in the help section of the auto parts store for around $8 or so.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/new-ls1-o...s-blowing.html has some information how to replace the socket (it's a firebird, but similar to the camaro) without splicing.

damn this thread is right on time. I had the same problem with my front signal yesterday and figured it was the bulb but when i pulled the socket it was black. The socket still works though. So i think I'll just get the bulb for now.

But just to be sure the front turn signals run all the time because they are dual filiment or are mine just messed up. I got my car about 3 weeks ago and I'm still learning it. Thanks.

Just get a replacement from Autozone. GM Tail and Stop socket I believe it was. Its like $9. Its way BETTER than paying $80... thats crazy! Its a very simple job, and you'll have peace of mind knowing your turn signals won't go haywire on you randomly.

@MelScrilla- I'd replace the socket now if its black and looks corroded inside. | Yes, they're on the whole time your car is on. So, no worries about that.
