Well, I still haven't seen one of these cracks yet so I'm not exactly sure of what area it's in, but plastic puddy might work. Most interior shops are familiar with this stuff. I've seen people use it before on cracked dashes...

I have the crack on my drivers door.Hasn't started on my passengers as of yet but if this is a typical problem I am going to take some preventive measures

My T/A is black on black.

How many of you with the cracks have had window motor/regulator work done on that door?
Mine came up just after the regulator on the driver's side was replaced.

From the looks of the pic, this is really an interior trim
piece and not the door structural? Maybe you could pull
the trim and glue a backing piece to keep it under
control?

Or is it just a vinyl-grain "decal" on the door composite?
That would suck.

My Camaro has a very different trim, soft vinyl there,
I guess this is why this is a Firebird-only deal?

I have a feeling the problem has to do with the expansion/contraction of the interior panel under hot/cold weather. Although my passenger side door has been fine since I replaced the original panel almost 4 years ago  Maybe the stock panels on 99's were just a bit "off" or something. I dunno. Still sucks.

hmmm... I had my driverside window motor replaced. The crack didn't showup until much later though. Yet, the paas. side has never been replace, and there is no crack. Interesting.

Mine did this also, don't remember if I've got a photo of it at home anymore or not.

I sold mine on Ebay, cheap, ..., Someone actually bought it, ..., And then bought a better new condition door panel from one of the forums.

I didn't think I could get the dealer to replace it, because I had recently had it off a couple months before for a broken window replacement.

other members here have had the dealership warranty them so a replacement should be in line if you qualify. I have noticed that the door does expand and contract quite a bit when the window is put up or down. Still havent heard anything about a recall for possibly free replacement even after warranty runs out. i should hear something by tomorrow tho.

I looked at Brad's pics and I can honestly say I've never seen that before. That really sucks that it's happening to so many people.

Seems that it must be some defective molds as some people have one door crack in a year and others go 4 or even 5 years without any cracks at all??? Weak plastic in certain production runs I guess....

Also probably has a lot to do with heat and the plastic becoming brittle. I always use a plastic treatment on my interior pieces to keep them lubed and I've never had any cracks....

my 02 WS6 had this problem on the passenger side. The panel was split in 2 different places. I took it to the dealership and they said it was a warranty item so i got it fixed but have been wondering also. I hadn't thought of the heat but maybe, i live in Va and it gets right hot so...

my camaro doesnt have this
but a buddy of mines' S10 ('99) has this
His is cracked on the top just like that pic of the black formula, AND the middle of the doorpanel near the speaker cracked.
He says it was just from his arms or legs leaning against it from driving.
But my old S10 never did that, and it had WAYYY more miles and abuse.

anyways, my Camaro's driver side doorpanel-armrest is warped though. Right on top where the armrest attaches to the panel.
I dont know if its from heat or humidity

I know that people have also had issues with 4th gen dashes cracking just above the passenger side air bag on the hard plastic piece of the dash, right where it meets the air bag area. That crack looks very similar to the one in Brad's pics in this thread. This is the first time I've seen a door do it though....

here is the reply from pontiac...

Dear Mr. Drasher,

Thank you for contacting the Pontiac Customer Assistance Center. We appreciate
you taking the time to write us in regards to your Pontiac Firebird.

We at Pontiac are not aware of a majr concern with the characteristics you have
described for your vehicle.
However, it most certainly would be covered under your new vehicle warranty. You
would just have to make the time to get your Firebird in to have it diagnosed.

We have checked our database for recalls or special campaigns on your particular
vehicle and there are none in effect currently or in the past. It is true as
well that there have been no recalls issued.

If there is a trend that you have noticed and others have as well, we reccomend
highly that each customer bring thier concerns to our attention so that we may
log them into out system. This is one of the ways GM decides a recall is
necessary.

Again thank you for writing us and bringing your concerns to our attention, and
please get to a dealership soon. They will be able to take care of you. Please
contact us again if you have any future concerns or questions.
Your file number is 1-170523467. Refer to it when corresponding or calling.

Sincerely

Chuck Schable

maybe if enough people make a claim or atleast have it noted then the problem can be resolved despite the waranty being void. there is a link on there website for customer service. just copy this most recent thread and give them the needed information to start a record.

All you 00-02 guys are lucky. I think my 99' w/ 68k miles is well past warranty. I don't know if I should go to the dealer with this problem or take it to a body shop of some sort?
