I've seen pics of this before, i'ts really no different than an old dash cracking under the heat...plastic expands under heat........I went to basic down in SA and one day the Heat index was 132........................HOLY SHEEEET.........I can only imagin how hot it can get in car under direct sunlight with the windows up....

Get a therm. and leave it in your car one day this summer and see just how hot your car gets.

A good car cover w/ U/V protection should help prevent this.

Hi everyone, I too have a crack on the driver's side panel in the same area as everyone else's. The crack in mine is about an inch long... I am not sure about this, because I haven't had time to verify it for myself, but I read in a posting that this defect is caused if I remember correctly by a "staple" that was not pushed all the way in. The person that posted the info said that if you remove the panel and depress or remove the problem staple, that you won't experience the same problem when you replace the door panel. Again, I'm not sure how accurate that assessment is, I am just passing on what I remembered reading a while back. Hope it helps... By the way, I think the heat theory may come into play also, I live in Louisiana, and it gets hella-hot down here.

One of my friends that I work with had a 99 Firebird (BlackonBlack). He had the same problem on his interior door panels. He thought it might have been caused by excessive slamming of the doors. With the windows down, u all know how easy it is to slam the shiz out of the door.

It has to be from the heat causing causing expanding and contracting, because when my car has been sitting in the sun for a couple hours, and I get in, those two pieces are touching, and cold they are apart as pictured above.

I have a friend with the same problem. From what I've read in this post, it seems a majority of the cracks are in black on black cars (like my friends). Looks like a lot of proof that the heat is the main factor. Keep the windows cracked, get window tint, t-top shades where applicable, and maybe a windshield shade. A lot less heat and probably better looking interior in the long run.

Everybody keeps saying heat is the problem. Well it might be but I doubt it. My car is garage kept and still has the crack. Like somebody stated before I think the main reason is due to the staple that needs to be removed and the door panel doesn't get put back on right when it's taken off for anything like window tint, or a motor replacement or anything like that.

Well my car is 2000 WS6, puwter and has 5% window tint on it sence i bought the car new I've got the crack on both doors, and both of the is right were the staple is and so is my friends car The staple is to big or the plastic is to brittle ,The heat may cause it to expand and cause it to crack, and the stress of the big staple starts it all. that what it looks like to me.

Right, I think it's elements of both the temp and the faulty stapling that play factors in the crack.... think about it, it's in the same place on all of our door panels... that would mean something is causing a specific weakness in that point, i.e, the staple... and something is exploiting that weakness to cause it to crack and run, i.e, excessive temperature. Just my $.02
