Default Weird Sounds from the ls1

i just got this car last April, so i am still new to the f-body world.

i have a 1999 Chevy Camaro z28 with a 6-speed, it has 75,950 miles on it and i have noticed some weird sounds from the engine bay.

if you guys took take a look at the video in the posted link that would be great.

let me know.

also, my temperature gauge needle gets stuck on the gauge face plastic and i need to hit the underside of the dash to get it to move into posit5ion when the car is turned on so any tips for that would be great as well.

Sounds to me like you have a lifter ticking away.

there are the sound of possibly a lifter, i am mianly concerned with the sound i can describe like rubbing metal on metal its hard to explain.

the sound i am most interested in is the first sound you hear in the video.

ticking lifter is possibility number one on the list to check as of now.

To fix the gauge remove the plastic from under the steering wheel and gauge bezel then remove the cluster the lens should pop off and you can reset the needle. Video sounds like maybe a bent pushrod does it get louder and faster with rpms. Also maybe try making a video with the car outside so there is no echo.

you may have a deflated lifter thats making a rocker click but to me that sounds like an idler or tensioner pulley with bearings on the way out. I fit were me I would take off the serp belt and the ac belt and take off the all the idler and tensioner pulleys to see if I could isolate that sound. You obviously can't spin them at idle rpm by hand but they should spin rough or have too much slack.

Wouldn't that be more of a whine than click?

Yeah, the whine is what I'm talking about when you moved around to the drivers side of the car. The click still sounds like a lifter.

You're lifters seem to tick normally when you get close. That almost sounds like an accessory as mentioned like ps or AC compressor. To me, it sounds like a bad AC compressor clutch (i had a bad compressor before sounded the same). Try turning the AC on/off to see if the noise changes. Also, you can turn the wheel side to side while parked to listen for noises from the ps pump to try to rule those out.

running the ac made no difference and neither did turning the wheel
