Default Rotors cracking?

Yesterdray, I noticed deep scratches/cracks all over my brembo rotor. These are only 500 miles old. I'm using Hawk HPS pads. What could be going on? Btw, it's worse on the back of the rotor.

Were they cleaned off with brake clean then warm, soapy water during installation? Did you set the pads after installing them?

I cleaned up with just brake cleaner when I installed them. Yes, I followed the HAWK procedure for breaking them in.

Brembo blanks? Where'd you buy them from? How extreme are you braking?

Yep, Brembo blanks. I bought them online, from Rock Auto I believe. Not very extreme. I don't race or anything. My only theory is that the caliper is sticking and causing it to overheat. There's not too much drag when I turn the wheel when it was in the air.

well thats probably your problem if the wheel is dragging when trying to spin it.

Can't really tell without pictures....but if they are like my Baer cross drilled and slotted rotors.....they are SUPPOSED to crack. I sent pictures of mine 3 years ago to Baer so they could see my cracks...which are in every single drilled hole on both sides of all 4 rotors. They said they are supposed to have them exactly how mine were. When you get up close to mine you would freak out and not want to drive the car thinking the rotors were about to crumble.

3 years later they are perfect and going strong. The cracks have not changed, they are the same.

They told me it was how the stresses are "relieved". Maybe the Brembos are the same. If all 4 are doing it, I'd say its normal.

Call Brembo and ask, send them pictures like I did. You don't want a rotor coming apart while driving, its just about the ugliest event you'll ever see happen, barring a serious car accident.

edit: btw..my cracks are all about 1/8" - 1/4" long and they spider outward from each drilled hole. Maybe 4-6 cracks per hole too. About 5 feet away you can't see them. Up close, it looks freaky.

Could you post a picture of this?
Maybe I should be worried my AC DELCO drilled rotors are not cracked.

Definitely, definitely, definitely not normal. Bad batch is my guess. Unless his brakes are sticky/overheating.

brembo's quality seems to be lacking lately. i've heard a few reports on here, and my friend's brand new c5 front rotors arrived warped brand new.

I will get pics up tomorrow. Well, when I spin the wheel, I can hear the pads rubs against the rotor and there is a little resistance.

I emailed Brembo yesterday, but no response.

I highly doubt they are suppose to crack, haha. Cracks just create weak points in the rotor.

if it's a solid rotor, that's weird, cross drilled rotors cracking is pretty normal

Pull your calipers off and check your pistons and slide pins. I'm willing to bet at least one slide pin is stuck, seems to be a very common problem on our calipers. The problem is the heat from braking cooks the grease in the slides, and they end up seizing up. The only prevention is to disassemble them periodically and regrease them with high temp synthetic caliper lubricant.

I was wondering, which part should be greased, the top or bottom one?

You can hit them with a wire wheel to clean them up as well if you have access to one. Those actually don't look too bad. Are either of your pads worn more than the other (inside or outside)?

Those are not mine, haha. I found this pic online. I'm wondering though, which one am I suppose to grease? When I did my brakes last, i removed the top ones and greased them. Are the bottom ones suppose to be greased too?

Grease all contact surfaces except for the pads to rotor, obviously.
