Default No-go Camaro

Today, after I spent 3 hrs cleaning my ride. I decided to go for a joyride cruisin along all is well t-tops out, Disturbed singing to me, foot to the floor in 3rd about 80 MPH not to the revlimiter yet it dies like I hit the redline. I push the clutch in coast for a bit then try to bump start nothing happens. So I pull over turn down the radio and try to start it. Not suprisingly it does not start but it does turn over just fine. So I'm pretty sure its a fuel pump related issue. Since I bought the car in 2005 everytime I fill it with gas it stinks like gas. I think today it just had enough. I dont know what kind of fuel mods it may have in the tank cause I have never looked. I just have to wait until Monday. Has anyone head this happen if so what was it?

Are you going to do a fuel pressure test on the pump? I just dealt with that problem on my '97Z...

That could be a lot of things, hopefully it's something fairly straightforward and not super expensive. When that happened to my daily driver saturn it ended up being a snapped timing chain, luckily for me it was a recalled item so I got a whole new cylinder head and timing chain installed for free.

Borrow a fuel pressure gauge from your local parts store tomorrow and hook it to the schrader valve on the fuel rail. Turn the gauge so it faces the drive seat. Turn the key to the on position without cranking and listen for the fuel pump to prime. If you cycle the key around 5 times without seeing in the neighborhood of 40-55lbs of fuel pressure at the rail it's more than likely your fuel pump has given out.

How much fuel was in the tank? In tank pumps burn out more frequently when the vehicle is low on fuel.

I also noticed you just got done washing the car. Did you clean the engine bay?

A cam sensor code will not keep the car from running. It uses the crank sensor instead to figure out the position of the cam. How long has it had this code?

I got a fuel filter and I bought a tester. I can hear the pump under the car yesterday it backfired and ran like crap for about 2 seconds I didn't wash the engine bay. I hope its not a timing chain. it has about 1/3 of a tank. About 4 months ago I did seafoam and never changed my filter so i'm going to start there.

Well to update, I changed the filter, car has 54lbs of pressure which is good. The fuel pump def works. No start Big *** backfire while cranking though. I pretty much eliminated the fuel issue. Now I think its a timing issue. Is there a major thing that would stop the car from firing, besides the timing chain?

If it's backfiring it's likley timing related.

Check into the crank and cam positioning sensors.
(never knew these cars had a cam sensor too....guess it makes sense with the coil packs)

If the TC broke the motor will spin over real fast when you try to start it. It is pretty obvious. It is possible it jumped a tooth but I have not seen this on a LSx motor yet. Pull codes but my bet is a cam position sensor....

I would be sure to pull the code and you will will know for sure whether it is cam or crank sensor. Cam is p0340 & crank is p0341.

I broke the timing chain, so its getting the 5.3 heads I have in the garage and a oil pump chain and a nice lopey camshaft. Lemme just say I'm pretty freakin excited about it.
