map light (and dome light) wont turn off
Ok, so this just started yesterday, but my map light wont turn off.
YES, all the doors and the hatch are shut. I even put my weight on them to see if it wasn't really shut.
It eventually shuts off when the car has been off for a while.
It does not shut off in the off position while driving, neither does the dome light.
I tried disconnecting my battery and reconnecting it to see if it would make a difference. It didn't.
Any ideas?
Yes i did do a search. No it didn't help, i couldn't find an answer.
Thanks guys!

I assume the problem is in the passenger door. If it was the driver's side, I'd expect you'd hear a chime warning you that the driver's door is open and you have a key in the ignition. Try putting your key in the ignition and then opening the driver's door. If you get a chime - then your issue is definitely on the passenger side.
You should be able to unplug the position sensor in the door and then jump the terminals in the wire. That should give you an indication if the sensor is bad.

ok, I dont think its the door position sensor. heres what i tried:
Yes i did hear the door beeping go on when drivers side door was ajar.
After 15 min when the map light turned off, I only opened the passenger door and the light turned back on.
couldn't be my trunk because it has its own light on the dash which does work.
any other options?

Its a part of the latch mechanism in the back of the door. You'll see a V-shaped piece in the door that rotates downward to secure to the bolt sticking out of the door opening. That V-shaped piece is attached to the sensor. Inside the door, there are a couple of wires that plug in to the latch mechanism. One of those sets are for the position sensor.

there is no such thing as a door position sensor. They are called pin switches.

Um question. Have you recently cleaned the inside of your car? Ok where you adjust the dash light brightness did you roll that wheel all the way up which turns the interior lights on and then our cars shut off power in ten minutes to AUX power so you can't kill your battery. I did this in my truck. Except I cleaned and then hoped in to go somewhere and i didn't have any interior lights. I instantly started to diagnose things when i thought of this switch. Simple fix just roll the wheel

you had it hit on the head. my car was worked on by a mechanic and he turned it all the way up. i didnt even realize that something like that could happen. unfortunately, I tried covering up the light so that it doesnt shine in my eyes, and the lense warmed up and started to sag. great, a new thing to buy...
Thanks guys
