Default PWR Steering Cap - Question

Question, I may have caused this, I changed my power steering fluid, and now I have a lot of bubbles in the system. I used the "remove and replace" a little at a time, maybe I have introduced this, as I could have "emptied" too much out one time.

The question is the Cap, it is "wet" around there on the top and side, is this suppose to be an "Air Tight" seal, maybe that is letting air in and contributing? Fluid is getting out to some degree, I always assumed it was simple cap, keeping dirt out and fluid in.

Thoughts? I know a cap is cheap, so I can head down to Chev in the morning.

Thanks

No it is at the cold line. I picked up another cap, so I'm going to drill out the old cap and use the mitti-vac like the Alldata/GM procedure site states to do, and try pulling a vacuum to get the air out, will let you know.

That's not the GM procedure for bleeding the power steering system.

leave the cap off and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock a few times and that should get any air out of the system and the bubbles should go away shortly

Well this is what the alldata/GM spec states to do.
BLEED PROCEDURE

•Tools Required
•J35555 Mity Vac
•J43485 Power Steering Bleeder Adapter
•Bleed the steering system for the following reasons:
•Components replaced
•Fluid line disconnected
•Steering system noise occurs
•Prevention of pump damage
•Proper system operation
IMPORTANT: Use clean, new power steering fluid type only.

•See Specifications.

IMPORTANT: Hoses touching the frame, body or engine can cause system noise.

•The hoses must not touch any other part of the vehicle.

IMPORTANT: Loose connections may not leak, but could allow air into the steering system.

•Verify that all hose connections are tight.

IMPORTANT: Maintain the fluid level throughout the bleed procedure.

•Remove the pump reservoir cap.
•Fill the pump reservoir with fluid to the "FULL COLD" level.

•Attach J 43485 to J 35555 or equivalent.
•Place J 43485 on the pump reservoir filler neck.
•Apply a vacuum of 20 Hg maximum.
•Wait 5 minutes.
•Verify the fluid level.

•Reinstall the pump reservoir cap.

You may also want to check the status of your coolant and make sure you don't have any cross-link between your coolant and PS systems. https://ls1tech.com/forums/suspensio...taminated.html

Thanks, for some reason my car does not have the P/S cooler. I did pull a vacuum and it held at 20 in for 5 minutes so it has no leak. Doing that it did pull a lot of air and you could see bubbles in the catch can. Also lifted the car and went lock to lock 30 times, so hopefully this, and a new cap I should be good. If not, a new pump....
