Exclamation Gutting Cats

Well im planning on gutting my cats because they are rattling like crazy. Whats the easiest way to get this done? Should i just gut them and leave it hollow inside or run a pipe through it. If so what size pipe would run through the original cat?

Well don't think gutting them and leaving the hollow cat on there will fool anyone. Here in Florida the troopers have laser temp guages. They kneel down, point it at the exhaust pipe, then the hit the cat with it. If the temp at the cat is the same as the exhaust pipe....your busted.

Get new cats if you don't want to risk a fine.

There's a guy on this board that pays good money for old converters. Sell him your old ones and put that money toward the cost of replacements.

Gutting them is not the same as removing them. When you remove the CAT, you replace with a piece of pipe. When you do that you keep a consistant volume in your exhaust system. When you gut them, you create a low pressure spot where you loose all your exhaust velocity. Then when the exhaust has to leave the CAT it all piles up and kills flow.

I dunno that you can. If anything I guess if you gutted em and found pipe that would fit you could weld it in and be ok. Like someone said earlier, sell yours to a recycler and take the money to go get new ones. Thats the best bet, and the least hassel.
