Default Window help

So my window started sliding last week, i pushed the button and it started sliding down. On saturday i closed the door and the window slid all the way down in the door. Any help as to what it could be? I pushed the up button and the motor sounds like it is still working? Maybe it just can't push the window up anymore?

When you say it slid all the way down I assume you mean it fell like it was dropped, not like it rolled itself down. If that is the case my guess would be a broken window regulator.

Sounds like your regulator needs to be replaced. The regulator is the sizzor mechanism that the window sits in and that the motor moves up and down. There is a circular/coil spring that provides tension to keep the window balanced so the motor can move it up or down without carring the full weight of the window everytime. If that spring goes bad the window will not stay up and the motor does not have the ability to raise it up.

Thanks Dave, i never knew that's what the regulator was. Any write up or idea how to replace it? Also where can i get the part? Autozone has no clue. Do i need the whole scissor mechanism or just the spring?

Honestly, I am not exactly sure how to go about replacing it or if the spring can be had separately. I do know that after doing just my window motor that the regulator is going to be much more difficult. Try searching here and on camaroz28.com for some writeups/tips on how to tackle it.

you will need to remove the door panel, drill out the rivets and pull it out in one piece. you will need to have or rent a monster rivet gun, I cant remember if the window channel is bolted or riveted to the regulator. Any how, you have to seperate the window and channel from the reg, and pull the assembly out install a new and rivet back together. And you can not use bolts.

I got all my parts through the local dealer, the ws6 store has everything you need as well. If you have never done one it will take you a couple hours or so.

It is not that bad, just take your time.

Question, how do I know if the rollers need to be replaced or the arms are bent? Or should i just not worry and replace the regulator?

well, if you can get to the window you will know. It will either be broken off or still attached. If it is round and attached you should be fine.
