I have to agree with him. I cant image anything else playing a part with your "direct sunlight" problem. In direct sunlight maybe your condenser reaches a temperature where not enough heat can be remove from the r134 to condense it into a liquid but in the shade it can. Check your fans also but clean the condenser.

low charge and dirty condensor would be my guess.
Do you have vent temps when this happens, I would assume your system is just very weak due to the low charge (or damaged compressor) and is ok in low heat load situations, but the direct sun adds too much heatload for the system to cool.
have the system discharged and charged with 1.5# and measure the vent temps and pressures.
