Default Power steering reservoir pressurizes, leak somewhere

Please help me with this problem... I have PS system leaking. It was leaking at the line in the side of the reservoir. I've replaced the line, now it leaks somewhere else. Local garage said that is because fluid is overheating (I have turbo and truck manifolds there). Is that possible? Also is this right that when I remove the cap from the reservoir, there's a lot of pressure inside? Is this because of fluid being heated?
What should I do?

yes, all above is correct. This is a common problem, even for folks with a stock setup.

So far the options I've seen are to get a TurnOne racing pump (may not be good for a lot of city driving) or put on a different PS cooler. I'm trying a Permacool frame rail cooler now and should have a verdict in a couple of weeks.

where does it usually leak from? is it from heat, bad pump design, or bad (not holding pressure) system alltogether?

Well, if DD's have problems then I'd say its either:
- a bad overall system design
- an issue that only comes up when the PS fluid starts to get old

This article has some great insight. http://www.gmhightechperformance.com...all/index.html

There is always a design trade off here. Performance at slow engine speed vs. heat and over pumping. From a racing and highway perspective, the pump is overpowered. If you drive a lot in the city, then the stock design has a lot of merit.

don't see actually any bad about design only that it's all unwrapped. and I think even stock LS1's happen to have problems with leaking PS

Do you have a PS cooler on your upper radiator hose?

You need it, get one and your fliud will stop boiling out. I had the same trouble with mine, was always wet around the cap.

Actually, I was going to say if he did to ditch it because thats the culprit. They are notorious of leaking internaly and letting coolant pollute the PS fluid causing it boil over.

I even had this problem with a stock cooler. I just switched to a 24" Perma-Cool frame rail cooler that I mounted just behind the front spoiler. http://www.perma-cool.com/Catalog/Cat_page15.html Praying that this does better... We'll see in a couple of weeks.

My aftermarket cooler looks to be a success: https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...l#post14005563
