You are correct. The roads here make me sad.
I'm not sure if there is any truth to that "expiration date", it probably has more to do with combined factors of age/mileage/ambient conditions than just age alone. I've owned this car since it was almost new, and the shocks behave about the same now at age 17 as they did when they were just a few years old. There was no noticeable change at all in ride quality around the ~10 year mark.
Having said that, I certainly agree that Bilsteins are a big improvement but as I drive the car so little I've not yet felt compelled to move forward with this. If I live long enough, I'm sure I will one day.

I also got the Derale 13224 Frame Rail Transmission Cooler after seeing your post, it is a nice clean set up. $31.95 delivered:
Normal driving power steering temperature was 180* (I have a 180* thermostat), it is now 125* on a mid 70's day.
The Derale 13224 comes with 1/2" inlet/outlet hose connections and a 11/32" hose that didn't fit. So your going to need to get 3/8" & 1/2" hose's and adapters to join them together!
Couplings - Reducer (barbed x barbed)
Item Description Price & Quantity
1/2" barb x 3/8" barb $4.15 2ea.

I literally went numb looking for an answer. If someone could be so kind if it was in the 20+ pages lol. Can you run the Low pressure side of PS through the radiator like the auto cooler portion and it be acceptable?
#485
You could, but this will heat up your PS fluid (same as what the stock PS cooler does, maybe not quite as hot since the stock trans cooler is on the cool side of the radiator).

Ps cooler by pass / dekete
Just figured I'd update my power steering cooler status... I decided to remove the Derale cooler I put on last year when I deleted the OE cooler. I notice absolutely no difference without it. So, I'll stand by my anecdotal assessment that all one needs is the upper radiator hose from a non-PSC car to alleviate this issue rather than going through the hassle of installing an aftermarket cooler. It's also nice not having those extra hoses running under there

Hi, im in the middle of deleting the stock ps cooler on my 2000 camaro. Im planning to just installing a generic radiator hose to replace the stock aluminum cooler assembly. And just connecting the small power steering hoses together not installing any cooler at all.I. would just like to ask for some pictures on how you did your set up on your car... your help is highly appreciated.

So I'm getting ready to do this mod, and figured I'd flush the PS fluid at the same time.
My question is, is it possible to just turn the pump pulley by hand and flush it that way instead of starting the engine? I'm a little concerned about it running dry, and unfortunately, my weekends don't line up with other people so I'd only have my girlfriend to help me.

BTW - If you can't get a drill in there, you can find these at any hardware store:
Drill goes on one end and your socket adapter can go in the place of the screw bit in the picture.

Chicago Car Show 2016: (At the Chevy display in front of a 2016 Camaro cut-away engine.)
Mrs. WSSIX99: What's that thing above the power steering pump?
Mr. WSSIX99: I'm not sure.
Mrs. WSSIX99: It looks strange.
Mr. WSSIX99: Well, those look like coolant barbs and those are the size of a power steering line... Oh, my God! They put another in-line power steering cooler on the thing!!!

does anyone have any recommendations for the return line to the cooler? i spliced mine together and the 1/2 x 3/8 barb wouldnt fit so i spliced them together with a 3/8 x 3/8 barb. it fits snug but slowly drips.
as i was under there today i also noticed there was ps fluid on the return line hose above the splice too..which i thought was weird, meaning it may not just leak from the splice. id like to replace the hose. has anyone bought one from anywhere that can run from the rack to the cooler without splicing it?

If someone would be kind enough to spare me 25 pages of reading:
Can I simply disconnect the lines going into the cooler? This way, I can retain the "cooler" in its is original location and be done with?

With disconnected lines, you won't get P/S fluid mixing with coolant, but you would get your coolant bleeding out of the system when the cooler develops a leak. You could plug the holes, but you'd still be playing with fire. For $15, you can get a non-cooler lower radiator hose and do the bypass properly.

I remember speaking with you regarding this issue two years ago lol (WSSIX99) I even snapped photos for you of my PS cap and rad cap and I was in the clear in terms of no fluids mixing. I haven't driven the car in two years but now that I have a proper garage for it, I will probably do something about this immediately. It is important for me that the car remain stock, but I guess I can simply keep the PS cooler on the shelf since its not broken yet.
What do I do with the lines that would now be obsolete ? Is there a way that i can plug them and tied them up? Really don't want to do any cutting....
