Default strange vibration from gfs new trans am.

my gf recently stepped into the lsx world with a 2002 trans am with exactly 100k. the car is perfect besides this one problem.... while driving the car home from the dealer i noticed a ... well.. tapping feeling/sound when going straight and got worse when turning right, it goes away when you turn left.

this is where it gets interesting..

when you come to a stop it makes a sound like when your creeping on the brakes and it creeks... interesting to describe.. lol its a vibration also but it only happens while the car is at a stop in drive.. it feels like it comes from the front passenger side of the car. Once you put the car in park the sound goes away.

She wants to start modding it with minor boltons but i want to make sure its mechanically sound before i do that.

one more thing. while going WOT in it today the vibration intensified and set off the knock sensor and ses light..... any idea where i should start looking? i have no clue where to start because its effected by the steering and when it comes to a stop... any advice would be appriciated.

bump for the night. any ideas? i would be tearing into it now but its her dd and im not quiet ready to bust out my car from storage so she can get it all salty. lol

does it have any aftermarket suspension/engine mounts? Could be some bad creaking bushings mabe?

the problem is it was a sold as is car.. from a used car dealer. the car is 100% bone stock... i wish i could just drive it up there and have them fix it. Im about to take it to Midas for a free checkup. lol

paid 8 for it. i know it sounds like junk lol. but besides this problem its perfect cosmetically and mechanically (as far as i know..). ill keep you updated. should be able to get a look at it tomorrow hopefully

it's definitely a weird problem, almost feels like it has to do with the power steering....if there was a way to get my car off my lift then I would say we could put her car on there and check it out

8 is about right, why not take it to a Pontiac dealer and have them check it out quick, for a 100 bucks or so youll have some answers.

check the easy things..

add a little power steering fluid and see if it goes away.

thanks for the input shawn. its def. a weired one for sure.... i wouldnt mind paying 100 for a def. answer.....its the part where they say "bend over" when they tell me how much to fix it.

Way to go. If your gf isn't in to the vibration, you must be doing something right!

It sounds like you have 2 separate problems. If you have some vibration tied to turning, that's in the suspension somewhere. If you get it when the car is at rest, its in the drive train somewhere.

You should check for worn wheel bearings - that's a likely cause of the problem linked to steering and is easy to do. Jack up each wheel, put your hands at 3 and 9 on the tire and see if you can wobble it side to side.

You'll have to check for the SES codes to start tracking down the engine/transmission issue and go from there.

Looks like Indiana has weak lemon laws...

the ses code was a engine knock. we got it cleared and hasnt come back sense. im positive it was related to the intensified vibration from going WOT. Thats what i was thinking about it being two problems. but its hard to tell until i get a look at it.

No tap when you're idle and the throttle is pressed?

I'd take the passenger's side wheel off and check all of the brake housings, make sure there is brake pad grease on the back side of the pads, make sure the tolerances are about right and that nothing is scraping.

On a side note, doesn't Indiana have a lemon law? I didn't think dealer's could sell "as is" cars; here in NY, when I purchased my first vehicle, the gov't forces the dealer to provide a three month warranty with it. This came in handy, too, because the fuel pump died about two weeks later.

Not a good one. I don't think it applies to cars with more than 18k miles.

Theres something other than a lemon law here in NY. The lemon law only applies to newish cars. You are correct about the dealer required warranty, but I dont think it falls under the lemon law. As far as Indiana, I have no idea but I would def look into it...

the tap increases with throttle response also. if you are in park and rev it you can feel a vibration, once you put it in gear you get what i described in the first post.

The only thing that prevents me from taking it back is the fact its her dd and the dealer is almost 4 hrs away... if i knew they were going to fix it i would think about it though
