what?

The upper hose connects to the top of the water pump and a clamp holds it on.

The lower hose connects to the thermostat housing and a clamp holds that on. The t-stat housing is then bolted to the water pump.

yup, on 6 cylinder cars, that is a very common leak. They are setup just like an old ford. I just did this repair the other day at the shop.

He asked:
what is the name of the part that is connected to the hoses for the radiator
Well the hose doesn't connect to the timing cover, it connects to the water pump.

Here's what the GM service manual says:

I believe your problems are a whole lot bigger than a timing cover Dude !

Here

3.8L Engine

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the cooling system into a suitable container.
3. Remove the serpentine belt.
4. Disconnect the radiator inlet hose from the water pump.
5. Unfasten the water pump pulley bolts/screws and remove the pulley.
6. Remove the water pump pulley retaining bolts, then remove the pump from the vehicle.
7. Remove and discard the gasket and thoroughly clean the gasket mating surfaces

To install:

1. Position a new water pump gasket, then install the pump. Secure using the water pump retaining bolts/screws and tighten to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm), plus an additional 80 degree rotation.
2. Install the water pump pulley and retaining bolts. Tighten to 115 inch lbs. (13 Nm).
3. Install the serpentine drive belt.
4. Connect the radiator inlet hose to the water pump.
5. Connect the negative battery cable.
6. Fill the cooling system. Start the engine and check for leaks.
