Default Window Regulator Assembly

Hi,

My window motor died. I have replaced lots of motors in other cars. So I thought this would be just as easy. However, when I removed the rivets from the motor. I did not realize that the assembly was on a spring tensioner. So now the arm that holds the motor has released all the tension and I am not able to get it back into place. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Do a search and you should find a couple of threads by folks who were able to put it back to together successfully.

BTW - When you put it back in, you should use the special composite rivets available from the GM dealer. Part number 10157547. If you don't, you will likely run in to this problem in the future - https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...-included.html

The holes are fine. I didnt grind them down. Like whoever did that in the link you had. It was just me not paying attention to the spring in the regulator.

Right - If you want to keep the holes fine, you should go with the special GM rivets. If you use bolts or standard steel rivets to secure the regulator back on, they will tear up your holes.

Should have just bought the motor and regulator assembly as one piece. Ten times easier to replace and actually fixes the problem.

I guess I don't understand the question.

I've replaced three different window motors and I've never had a problem with the regulator being under tension. I simply drilled out the rivets, removed the motor, and replaced.

Did you drill something improperly? Where does the window now sit, height-wise, and why can't the regulator be corrected to its original position?

The OP is doing the factory procedure and not the shbox method.

Well the factory usually replaces the regulator and motor as one piece so I wouldn't "exactly" call it the factory procedure....

The factory manual calls for removing the regulator assembly and then using a large bolt and nut to keep the regulator from exploding. (like it does here) It then instructs to drill out the motor rivets and replace them.

A GM dealer would probably replace the whole regulator and motor together every time because the labor to do the procedure above costs more than the part.
