ticking on cold start?

I have the tick and the whine! The Goat almost always ticks, but only sometimes has the whine. Both clear up when everything gets warmed up and into normal driving ranges. My LS1 Camaro has neither noise. Runs like a kitten with a bad attitude!

Gm dealership told me in 98 ls1 the problem was piston slap due to bigger cam and smaller heads, 99 to 02 has smaller cam but bigger heads, said it shouldn't do that but then again, they all tick apparently.
