Default Here we go ago!?

Well long story short! Water pump started leaking, bought a new one and new thermo, replaced it and now the car overheats!!!! Got all the air out of the system and checked the thermo. It doesnt seem like the coolant is circulating, i.e. no heat in car and when i squeeze the hoses and release i dont feel the coolant rushing through!! I guessing it must be a faulty water pump...(even though its brand new)? Is there anything i might be missing or should check before i take it off and get another one? Any info is greatly appreciated thanks

Default

Yes, i heard the ls1's can trap alot of air bc of the position of the radiator, so i jacked the front of the car up, let it run, turn it off, let it cool and top it off. I did this a few times

no it didnt, but i did some more research and they say the bleeders can get clogged and i drained the coolant to change the water pump and then got called out of town for a week before i could finish it. could a lot air cause the fluid to not flow through the system? i just hope it isnt a head gasket but the car isnt smoking and if it was just the head gasket wouldnt the coolant still flow through the system and there doesnt seem to be any coolant loss

A common thing might be the belt routing. Is it slipping? Does it match the routing shown on the sticker placed on the driver's strut tower?

I'd suggest starting by partially draining the system and taking the thermostat out. (If you can.) I imagine this is not possible with a 1-piece thermostat.

What are the brands and model numbers of the pump and thermostat you are using?

Thermo is good, and the belt is correct and not slipping. Im not sure the model numbers but the water pump is a gmb and the thermo is a motorad.

If I recall correctly, the LS1 circulates in a different direction than other GM blocks. At this point, its probably most important to check that model number on your pump.

Well guys, i bled the system again and it seem to work this time! I guess it was just some trapped air that refused to get out! But all seems good for now!!! thanks for the help

You can bleed air out quickly by undoing the hose from the steam crossover tube.
