Default Windshield replacement...

I have a 1.5" star crack in the windshield on the passenger so I'm not real worried about it now, but I wanted to know how much it was to replace the windshield. On my '84 Camaro it cost me $200 for the replacement, but there wasn't an entire cowl that needed to be removed. For those that HAVE had their windhsields, replaced, did the person doing the work replace the cowl NICELY? I hate people touching my car.............. they never put stuff back exactly the way it should be...........

Although I have to admit, not a fan on my car being touched either. But with glass it going to cost you more to do it yourself.

Oh yeah, I'm not even contemplating doing it myself, just wanted to get a feel for others' experiences in having their windshield replaced.

Call your insurance company. Most will do the job for free and it won't knock against your rating. Its better for them to replace defective windshields vs. let you be in a situation where that thing can shatter....

Find a place that uses factory - type glass like PPG, the cheaper stuff (Chinese knock-offs) can have fitment issues esp around the edges due to the curve not being perfect. I would ask how much experiece the installer has first. When they use the knife or wire to cut the adhesive/bonding agent if they nick the paint basically you need a body shop to repair the scratched/bare spot before proceeding. Generally they wont tell you about this and proceed with the install. Then a few years later, mysterious rust bubbles start around the windshield or from below the cowl up the A pillar etc. That is just the rust you see! By that time, the shop or installer is long gone and to repair it is probably not going to be worth it. I found this out the hard way (not an f body thank goodness!)...

Definitely contact your insurance company. Some states have a free one time replacement if you have full coverage - Florida does.

I am waiting for my windshield to develop a crack. I have some rust on the driver side near the t-top I want to get taken care of. I went through 3 windshields on my truck.
