Annoying rattling noise from rear of car
ok, so I have a really annoying rattling noise coming from the rear of my car somewhere. I first noticed it on a road trip on interstate roads while the windows were up and it can barely be heard while windows are down (probably due to how loud the car is). This noise almost sounds like its coming from the rear trunk latch to me. I have lifted the rear end of the car and looked for any loose components but cant find or see anything loose. It happens while in gear or in neutral while going over bumps but not every bump. This happened after I had some suspension components installed: koni Shocks, Strano Springs and watts link. I know this is kind of a shot in the dark as its kind of hard to diagnose through words but when I first heard it on the road I thought maybe a shock bolt was loose or something loose and rattling around. I saw nothing lose underneath, plus the fact that it is easier heard when windows are up and even people outside of the car cant hear the rattle when I can hear it inside. Sorry for the long explanation but I would really like to know how to fix this, thanks for any help or ideas on how to fix this.

Is this common on the Fbody? This is my first Fbody with extensive mods and I expected a harsher ride with lowering the car and stiffer springs, some noises, etc... but not this noise I am hearing.

Did you ever figure out the noise. I have the same damn rattle. Last word of advise from another F-body owner was that he had the same noise on his and when he removed his e-brakes, the noise went away.

Are you all sure it isn't the latch for the rear hatch? I've got 2 f cars and they both have the issue. Just pull the carpet back a little where the latch is and shorten/tighten the spring that works the latch. It kinda tough so hold in tight. It's fixed the issue on both of my cars.

Go here, they have pics of what I am talking about. That whole mechanism vibrates really bad. I just cut my spring and made a new bend in it which tightens the mechanism, kills the rattle, and helps the hatch pop open every time.
I've also wrapped a couple zip ties around the arm that goes across the latch to keep him tight as well. It's usually what vibrates. Just pull the carpet back and you will see what I mean.

Hey, I found the rattle on my T/A. I am almost positive you will find it to be the same with your F-bodies. It was the Panhard Rod. I took it off and the sound was 100% GONE! Going to order a new one with the Poly bushings on both ends. The spherical steel end fibrating against the metal mount when going over any type of small bump on the ground is what was causing the stupid "rocks in a can" noise.

mine made more noise in the rear end after installing suspension too, whenever you switch to poly bushings or delran or anything you loose some of the vibration dampening

i went through this rattling hell myself.
i tried tightening the spare tire, messing with the license plate holder, making sure the interior plastics were all secure, and fiddling with the latch.
After all this it turned out to be the driver side exhaust hanger/mount.
my catback rubbed through the bushing from vibration.
good luck

Possible Solution
Service bulletin 01-05-23-010
2001-2002 Camaro/TransAm
Prior to VIN 22111830
The rear end backing plate bolts were not torqued down at the factory to specs. Give that a try.

knocking from passanger rear
Old post but Just had this issue, after a few days found it, the passenger side shock has a 1" entention, over time the shock and extention had unscrewed and the rod of the shock was pushed up, when the car was sitting flat the top of the shock could not be seen, but it was solid because the gas pressure pushed it up firm to the area between the qtr pannel and trunk, but when I'd drive and the car would go UP after a bounce the gas charge took a min to push the shock back up into place. Easy fix was to screw the shock and ext together.
Hope this helps someone.
