Welll it seems I might reconsider the whole synthetic oil thing. What 02form makes sense.

Just can't see why GM would recommend a synthetic if a non syn is best for the rear.

On a different note, my rear end is leaking!! wtf

Im pretty sure its the shitty diff cover, so i ordered a new one. and im gonna replace the oil again next week.

What a waste of oil. FML and money

If you didn't use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to spec, and just wrenched 'em down, luck has nothing to do with it.

I would trust Redline synthetics, you get what you pay for.

GM is in the business of making money........GM synthetic oil cost 20 plus per qt at the dealer.................cheap regular oil is like 3 bucks a qt. PLUS the lightweight crap GM oil is going to cause early differentail failure and the dealer is gonna love evey miniute of the ******* they gonna give you.

You had a pretty good and convincing rant above about not using a synthetic gear oil and then saying how great Redline is. I like Redline also so:

Which Redline gear oil do you use that's not a synthetic?

I have seen a swap to a synthetic and within a week bearing howl ultimately leading to a complete rebuild.....And, every rear I have rebuilt i have recommended dino oil to the owners and they are all living healthy....Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not.

Yep thats cause most synthetics are about performance NOT real world protection. I've used Red Line without issues BUT its hard to find and expensive as hell. PLUS THE CHEAPEST regular oil will protect BETTER than ANY synthetic oil in the real world. I'm not sure what else I can add to this thread............

pssst I had a 89 Camaro with over 200k on the car REAR never touched except to change the CHEAPEST regular gear oil every 50k.

I like everything you've said about gear lubricants and it all makes sense.

As you pointed out the disadvantages to using syth gear lubes (and I agree with what you've said) I'd like to know which version of Redline gear lube you're using.

This is something that you can add to this thread.
