Default 03 2500 hd overheating. Need help ASAP please

I have a 2003 2500hd 6.0l gas and it overheats when your sitting still. Once you start moving it cools down. Once your stopped though the temp climbs quickly. The water pump fan kicks on only sometimes. Could it be the water pump or possibly a plugged radiator? This is my DD so any help is appreciated. Thanks

Maybe the fan clutch.

They didn't start with electric fans in trucks til like 05, I can't recall if they even put them in 2500s

Yea no leaks. Im pretty sure its the the fan clutch going out. But it still shouldnt overheat. Im gona replace the tstat tomorrow and see if that helps.

Its not the water pump. If that stops pumping water you overheat right into the red.....whether sitting still or doing 70mph.....period.

It could be a partially opening t-stat however......I just had one of those little gems 2 weeks ago. Sucker was taking forever to open and when it did, it would not open fully. BUT...that would cause overheating when stopped or on the highway cruising.

Most likely its the fans, thats what keeps you cool when stopped or in stop-and-go traffic.

*****Is this happening with and without the A/C "on"....?
