Default 2005 dodge neon

The wife's car randomly downshifts... Any thoughts on that? Also her breaks squeak only when it sits for a while (like over night) and then stop after they get "warm" I'd say. So like after the breaks have been used 5-10 times. Pads and rotors look fine to me... Still alot left on pads... Thoughts?

neons are notorious for brake squeaks. The break pads may have some build up on them from being heated and cooled down. are the pads ceramic?

Honestly don't know I took some sand paper to the rotors to reduce some glaze we will see if that works out

Automatic neon transmissions seem to like to go out at around 80K miles, so be prepared.

Have you changed the auto tranny fluid or know if the previous owner has? If not maybe change that. Pan probably does not have a drain and to change either have to drop the pan or use oil extractor. Personally I would use oil extractor to change it w/out all the mess. If that fixes the issue then in another year or so do it properly and drop the pan/change the tranny filter.

well i ended up changing the fluid in the car and it was just as suggested... a band aid...

the car still has downshifting problems and wacky speedo... talked to my uncle who is a mechanic at a dodge dealer...he sugguested changing the speed sensors so i changed both input and output sensors... well to my surprise when i got in to drive and check it out the speedometer now does not work at all and the car has now gone into limp mode...

what should i do now? one thing i have found online maybe to change the shift solenoid. I would like to know if this is going to work or not though before i spend the 200 bucks on the solenoid.
